I think this thread is hilarious. I consider you lucky MMR is going to get you a new motor at this point. Assuming it is new. But, irregardless who cares if they have lost money, they should and a hole lot more for what they have put you and everyone else through. I have a MMR motor in mine and luckily enough no issues. Luckily it was assembled by my shop. Even though a fully assembled motor was paid for and billed. There were many more mistakes made by them that are no where close to what others have experienced and I would never buy from them again.
I don't know how a 50/50 rep is close to acceptable for you or anyone else. I mean really your getting a new motor which you already paid for, how many thousands of dollars have you lost in labor, enough is enough. I know your thread was meant to give MMR some props at some level, but I think it highlights yet again why no one should do business with them. I mean unless you like constantly being let down, stressed out for months, and then finally get what you paid for with all the added labor.
I hear what you're saying... and I do understand your point. I would be lying to say I am not a bit hesitant to put this new motor under serious load, but at some point, I have to stop complaining and let someone try to fix something done wrong.
I may have mentioned it before, but I've talked with Mark many, many times over the course of the past few years. He had always been very defensive of his company and the work they did. Some of his stories, if you believe them, were actually in his favor. Many, if you believe the people in the forums, were only telling part of the story.
In my case, they did not have to warranty the shortblock. I had it built locally (using parts I purchased from MMR) and stuck the MMR stage 3 heads and stage 2 cams on it. It was the heads that caused the engine failures... all three times. Each time, MMR rebuilt the shortblock, too. They really didn't have to do that. Many shops would not.
Where it got crazy was that by the time of the 3rd failure, the shortblock wasn't even reusable. The cylinders would've needed sleeving to bring them back into spec, metal had ran throughout all the bearings and journals, it simply wasn't worth rebuilding another time.
That is when Mark and I decided they'd provide me their own shortblock, but I would procure the heads elsewhere.
I posted this thread because I felt Mark had made a change. He admitted things had been snowballing at MMR and that he now had a new crew and a new approach to doing business. I decided to give them another chance. If the engine fails... well, it fails. It sucks to swap engines, but then again, I'm good at it. I lose a day of work, yeah... but I do it myself in my own garage. The engine I'm running now will be my spare, so I won't have months of downtime while I wait for a rebuild, new engine, etc...
Basically, I'm giving them another chance. Let's see how it goes. That's what this thread is about. I know you all have horror stories... Obviously, I have some of my own. Let's just keep this thread to what happens with this chance I'm giving them. Who knows, I may be left impressed.
