I'll add my additional :2cents: to this thread.

And I'll add mine too.

A friend sent his almost new Challenger to them in early 2010 for a twin turbo install. They had it for 8 months before they finally finished it in August of 2010. He drove it home. It broke the next day. They picked it up and trailored it back to their shop. And he waited. And waited. And waited.

And he's still waiting a year later.

No fuggin way would I recommend that anyone do business with them.

Funny how much good tuning info this thread brings up. I'd eventually like to attend the SCT classes and learn all the painful details of tuning these cars.

I think this thread is hilarious. I consider you lucky MMR is going to get you a new motor at this point. Assuming it is new. But, irregardless who cares if they have lost money, they should and a hole lot more for what they have put you and everyone else through. I have a MMR motor in mine and luckily enough no issues. Luckily it was assembled by my shop. Even though a fully assembled motor was paid for and billed. There were many more mistakes made by them that are no where close to what others have experienced and I would never buy from them again.

I don't know how a 50/50 rep is close to acceptable for you or anyone else. I mean really your getting a new motor which you already paid for, how many thousands of dollars have you lost in labor, enough is enough. I know your thread was meant to give MMR some props at some level, but I think it highlights yet again why no one should do business with them. I mean unless you like constantly being let down, stressed out for months, and then finally get what you paid for with all the added labor.

The sad thing people may have issues they dont even know about.. I would have never known they gave me a used block if I didnt have tuning issues that lead to other problems. As stated before.. its one thing for a shop to make a mistake.. its another when they are caught in lie and ripping people off.

I hear what you're saying... and I do understand your point. I would be lying to say I am not a bit hesitant to put this new motor under serious load, but at some point, I have to stop complaining and let someone try to fix something done wrong.

I may have mentioned it before, but I've talked with Mark many, many times over the course of the past few years. He had always been very defensive of his company and the work they did. Some of his stories, if you believe them, were actually in his favor. Many, if you believe the people in the forums, were only telling part of the story.

In my case, they did not have to warranty the shortblock. I had it built locally (using parts I purchased from MMR) and stuck the MMR stage 3 heads and stage 2 cams on it. It was the heads that caused the engine failures... all three times. Each time, MMR rebuilt the shortblock, too. They really didn't have to do that. Many shops would not.

Where it got crazy was that by the time of the 3rd failure, the shortblock wasn't even reusable. The cylinders would've needed sleeving to bring them back into spec, metal had ran throughout all the bearings and journals, it simply wasn't worth rebuilding another time.

That is when Mark and I decided they'd provide me their own shortblock, but I would procure the heads elsewhere.

I posted this thread because I felt Mark had made a change. He admitted things had been snowballing at MMR and that he now had a new crew and a new approach to doing business. I decided to give them another chance. If the engine fails... well, it fails. It sucks to swap engines, but then again, I'm good at it. I lose a day of work, yeah... but I do it myself in my own garage. The engine I'm running now will be my spare, so I won't have months of downtime while I wait for a rebuild, new engine, etc...

Basically, I'm giving them another chance. Let's see how it goes. That's what this thread is about. I know you all have horror stories... Obviously, I have some of my own. Let's just keep this thread to what happens with this chance I'm giving them. Who knows, I may be left impressed.

I'll add my additional :2cents: to this thread. Good luck with your MMR engine I hope everything works out for you. Some guys have had good success with them and some of us have had catastrophic failures with their engines. They cost me personally about $10000 in engine, transmission, and labor costs. Yes transmission, they sold me an incorrect SFI flex plate for my 5R55S and it cost me a trans and converter.

As far as tuning goes, anyone within about 100 miles or even further from Richmond, VA that needs tuning done should make the drive to Mid Atlantic Performance and have Mike Roush do the tune. Mike is one of the few tuners on the east coast that goes to all the required recurrent classes at SCT to maintain his certification. With SCT you can buy the dealers package and attend the required classes and be good to tune but if you don't do all the recurrent classes for all the new stuff you can't maintain your certification. Just look on SCT's web site and see how few fully certified tuners there really are in the country and compare that number with how many shops offer SCT tuning.
