ron, have you looked at the cam followers/rocker arms? had a bearing on the roller that rides on the cam fail in one, hard to see in engine, but look at height of follower to roller under cam

What do you mean exactly? I understand that the rollers may be causing the noise and that does make a bit of sense to me but what exactly should i be checking, or should i be removing the rockers from ,that side of the engine completely?

Didnt you have a follower that took some abuse also Ron? One that was discolored from heat? I thought I saw a picture of it at the beginning somewhere.

Hey Ron
its about time :beerdrink:
Ok this is simple make sure both valves are closed when doing this sometimes it will try to turn the engine you have a stick car so use the hand brake and put it in gear to stop the engine from turning that set-up should have instructions and different scales one gauge with show how much air from your compressor and the other with tell you how much of that air its holding in the cylinder look at the chart with your leak down set it will give you your percentage it should give you different amounts of air pressure to push into the cylinder on that chart so use 90 psi if your 10% or less your golden 10-15% its still ok 20 and more find where its leaking from you will hear it in the intake throttle body or exhaust pipes or crank case NOW YOU WILL LEARN SOMETHING RON!
This tool is always used when guys use heavy amounts of spray they use it between rounds to see if they are burning up there piston when leaning out the engine for MAX horsepower
If there is no instructions both gauges should read at least 100 psi start with your good side on the engine and write this all down cylinder# and what it leaks then go to the weak side they should all be close

I completed the leakdown test a few minutes ago. I used a 120psi air source and set the left hand gauge to regulate the leak down tester at 90psi. Here are the results:

Cyl: Regulated Pressure ..... Cylinder Pressure ..... Leakage ..... %leak
1 ...........90psi 00....................88psi .................2psi ...........2%
3 ...........90psi 00....................88psi .................2psi ...........2%
7 ...........90psi 00....................82psi .................8psi ..........9%
2 ...........90psi 00....................88psi .................2psi ...........2%
6 .... ......90psi 00....................89psi .................1psi ...........1%
5 ...........90psi 00....................87psi .....v ....... .3psi ..... .. ..3%
4 .... ......90psi 00....................87.5psi ..............2.5psi .........2.5%
8 ...........90psi 00....................86psi ...... .. .... .4psi ....... ..4%

What do you guys think? Cyl 7 is where the rocker came off, where one of the intake valve cam lobes got damaged. We replaced the rocker, lifter and polished the cam. Any thoughts?

That leak down is fine the fully correct way is the motor hot so the pistons fully expand so for cold its fine now that you found that bad rocker does your compression come back to match the other side?
I am guessing your cams are locked if so start using some thicker motor oil that 15w-40 rotella is real good and easy to find. I am curious what are you shifting that mustang at Ron?

The replacement rocker and polishing to the cam was done weeks ago when Peter came own to help me. The compression test was doen after we repalced the rocker arm and polished the cam so no the compression is still not equal

I will use thicker motor oil thats for sure. I never shifted the car past 6400, with a rev limit of 6800 so i could run out 4th in the quarter mile.

Yes the cams are locked using livernois lockouts

YOUR SAYING that one side of the engine is off by 30 psi?is what I believe you posted now that you know you leak down is good go for the cam gear on the weak side pull all the spark plugs move the cam gear 1 tooth rotate the engine fully with a wrench to make sure no valve to piston crash if all looks good put your compression gauge on and crank the engine now if all this does not bring up the one side you have to wonder is it different head gaskets thickness or different CC cylinder head chambers or different deck heights on the block.

yes the entire passenger side read approximately 150psi. the entire drivers side read approximately 120psi so there is a 30psi difference from side to side. we were thinking it may be 1 tooth off but ill need to pull the timing cover again to be sure

Definitely sounds like you are off a tooth. Glad you are getting this beast figured out. Hell, you should be a modular expert after all this! LOL
