Has anyone ever used the DoB alternator on a stock engine? My 6G finally shit the bed so I'm getting a DoB unit, but it will only mount using the 2 studs above the water pump. The DoB unit has no ears, so the top bracket can't be used. I talked to Jason and he says that those 2 studs are sufficient to hold it in the cradle and leaving the ears on the DoB unit is not an option. Has anyone had any issues using the DoB unit on a stock engine with only the 2 studs as mounting points? Has it ever misaligned and come loose or shredded a belt?

My whipple set up eliminates the stock bracket and the alternator currently uses the two bottom bolts to hold it in. I even have a heavy duty tensioner that holds the belt tighter than stock. Never had an issue. You’ll be fine.

Thanks buddy, I appreciate the 'real world' feedback! It just seemed like over time it would loosen with all the vibrations and constant, spinning tension on the pulley. Glad to hear that it does not do that with yours.

Did you put a new battery in when you installed the DoB? Their warranty info says if the battery doesn't read at a minimum of 13v then you need to install a new battery or risk killing the alt. I've never had a battery hold 13v off the shelf, they always float between 12.6-12.9 from my experience. Mine is only 15 months old and sits at a constant 12.8v off the car.

They state "new" battery, but what it means is a good and fully charged battery. Chances are by the time you have to replace the alternator, you have discharged the battery. Most ppl cant correctly evaluate a battery. That is why a "new" battery covers all possibilities. ;)
12.6v or better is fine. 12.7-12.8v is what I see on good and charged batteries.

I have a stock 2010 alternator not the DOB one. Just make sure your battery is healthy.
