I wish I had a key. and alarm code.
co policy is there MUST be at least 2 people there at ALL times when someone is working.
also with the new shop everything runs on motion sensors and timers.
the main control for the air compressor and the lights is in a computer program. to work past the normal hours management has to manually override the program.

OK finally had some time for better pics of the products I used.

first bumper repair epoxy.

special application gun.
they also sell it in hand powered application gun.

evercoat flexible filler.
I have used this stuff for about 20 years without ever having problems with it.

primer I used.
I have used this primer for about 20 years without problems, if I followed the directions. it was used by the bumper repair companies also.
it was discontinued years ago because of the high VOC's it has. our shop stocked up on it because we know it works. I think we have only 1 gallon left. I guess transtar makes a water based primer now that works almost as good as this does. I have been told SEM makes a good quality bumper primer also.

the bumper is now primed up and waiting for paint in storage. I also have a right antenna delete fender I made last year I haven't painted and installed yet.
I have a credit to my ford dealer where I buy parts from. as long as I am painting I will probably buy a GT500 rear bumper also.
I have several large jobs at work I have to do before I can paint it.
I also want to get my 72 road runner with a 572ci hemi in it running and ready for sale.
I also have to do some work on my mustang before I can get to the bumper.
find a mysterious coolant leak in my mustang, I think the DOB intake is leaking. install my 6060 trans, MGW shifter, RXT clutch and CF driveshaft which I haven't bought yet. 4 piston brembo brakes with upgraded rear rotors. new rear end with locker, and moser axles all new BMR control arms.
so much to do with so little time and no place to work on it.
I plan on taking 1 weeks vacation and taking the mustang to my friends shop to work on it.

if you suspect the DOB manifold, get a syringe with a long rubber tube, put it down one of the holes for IAT or vacuum/boost port and see if you get anything.

thats what I did, odd these are randomly showing up, like the 3rd ive heard of

i really haven't had time to paint and install it yet.
i also have a right fender with antenna delete to paint and install to.

the first delay i had was selling my 72 road runner with a 572 hemi in it. after that was done. then i used some of the cash for work on my house. in a month or so when the weather warms up i have to put a roof on my house also. and then some trim paint work.
after work on the house is done i will work on the car.

here is a list of mechanical things i need to do before doing paint work on the car.

the biggest hold up is i have a mysterious coolant leak i can't find. i am assuming i have a internal leak on the DOB intake. i have another one on order in the group buy. when DOB finishes the intake i will tow the car to my friends shop and go to town on it. here is a list of upgrades i will do once the car is in my friends shop.
find coolant leak and probably install new intake.
after that is done i will install a low miles used 2013 track pac TR6060 trans, RXT clutch, flywheel, new TO bearing, 13 and up clutch master, braided line, MGW 2nd gen shifter and new carbon fiber DS.
install new pinned and welded tubes rear end with 3.73 gears and detroit locker internals and a ford racing support rear cover.
with the rear out some adjustable upper and lower BMR control arms with relocation brackets.
after that is install a new BARE 6 piston brakes 14" rotors, and a 4 piston willwood rear brakes with 13" rotors.
then new BMR subframe connectors.
after that then a maximum motorsports 6 pt roll cage with swing out bars. racing seats with 6 pt belts.
(i have ALL of the above listed parts on the shelf except the seats and harness and the DOB intake that's on order)

THEN AFTER ALL that work is done. i want to figure out wiring a hidden antenna so my stock AM/FM radio can work with the antenna delete fender, yes i have satellite radio but i still want the stock radio to work also. .
after that the find time to sneak my car into the bodyshop and paint my parts between other customer work i am doing. someone put a dent in my passenger door at a show a while back, so when the car is in the shop for the bumper and fender. i will repair the door and blend the color out when i paint the fender.

The bumper looks awesome. I read this thread from the start and was looking forward to see the finished product. You are killing me. About the radio antenna, I used one like this for my Cobra Replica and it worked pretty good. You could stick it to the top of the windshield on the inside or the back glass on the inside.

My experience with the antenna is that you need to get it up and out in the open for best results. So an inconspicuous location on your front or rear glass is the best location. Obviously you could try it anywhere and see what works for your car. Then I'm sure some brands of antennas work better than others too. Good luck.

How does that plastic welding work? Is it basically a hot glue gun, or does it melt the 2 pieces of plastic together?

the welder i used and pictured in the beginning of this thread has been renamed to Polyvance co.
here is a good youtube 8 min video giving the basics of plastic welding.
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=iFbv-68qFf8

plastic welding on polypropylene is basically melting the base plastic and filling the void with filler rod.
it's really similar to brazing, only lower temps and HOT air instead of a flame. also there is a shielding gas to protect the weld area. and you use a filler rod made of a material close to the plastic you are welding.

it's not like using a hot glue gun because plastic welding melts more of the plastic and the filler rod is almost the exact same material as the bumper. with a glue gun it add a different type of material into the area you are joining.

yes you can use a soldering iron to melt 2 pieces of plastic together. without the shielding gas the weld will get contaminated and won't be as strong as a proper weld.
this is how they used to repair bumpers before plastic welders hit the market about 15 years ago. you used to melt the area with a modified soldering iron, melt in some filler rod and them melt in some wire mesh. like a window screen, to support the weld.

Damn, a proper plastic welder is way out of the average hobbyist's budget. You can buy a lot of new bumper covers for those prices.

I guess I'll stick with my soldering iron and heat gun approach.

the bodyshop where i work at has to have one to get OEM certification. also to get preferred status with several insurance companies you have to have one.

I could see that.
I would love to try one out, looks like a great setup.
