Well I finally had a chance to get the the track...between getting the whipple on and then getting my slicks replaced with M/T et streets today was really the first trip to the track. The good part is I had 2 new bests; the bad news I need to go back and figure out whats wrong....

I should also mention I have a 3.5" pulley not the 3.35" 12lb pulley

only got two runs in today (thanks to the weather),

1.783 60'
left off idle with 19psi in ET Streets
8.14 1/8 et
86.37 mph

1.774 60' (new personal best)
left 2000 rpm with 18psi
8.09 1/8 et (new personal best)
86.20 mph

Why is my MPH so low...I was running 85.5 N/A in the 1/8th?

I still think I can let more air out of the tires and raise the RPM for even better 60' but the MPH is bothing me

Still running the fordracing caned tune, but still think there should be more then that in her..

HELP....am I just expecting to much first time out? :wtf:

I'm just guessing here, but it could be that the canned tune is ultra-conservative and is pulling timing up top, which is hurting your trap speed. Was the weather warm/hot too?

But congrats on the new personal best! :beerdrink:

tune

Time to relocate the IAT sensor and get a tune. The FRRP tune will make good power, but has some intresting tricks in the cal for timing control. Although there are many factors, a tune would still help matters.

A few thoughts come to mind.

First, what amount of boost are you actually seeing? Do you have a boost guage? According to the whipple website you should be between 8-10 psi.

I echo your concern about the mph. Regardless of how you leave the line, honestly 86mph in the 1/8th is concerning to me as it tells me the whipple isn't making any power. You should be around 90-92 mph in the 1/8th.

Maybe the tune is pulling timing like crazy. Can you datalog and monitor the knock sensor activity? Or datalog your timing at WOT?

On a side note--were the M&H's not hooking or did you switch because of the tire height?

re datalo

I thought to ask the same, but using the Ford tune, the unit is similar to an x-cal 1. It is just a simple flash tuner. He will need to buy a Diablo Predator or X-cal2/3 to datalog.

I do have the IAT relocated just need to get the custom tune to use it. Right now I'm trying to build some confidance with a local tuner, he seems to know what he is talking about but then other times I question the answers he is giving me. So it's a slow process getting confortable with him.

With the 3.5" pulley I'm seeing 9.6 max boost.

I do have an Xcal-2 that I can data log with what should I monitor and what should the readings be? (data logging seems pretty easy; but what I should be seeing for timing and knock?

I changed from the M&H because my local town has the roads torn up and I got a piece of metal in one of them (it took out a 3/4" chuck of the slick right through the cords, and when I called M&H they told me 3-4 weeks. So I switched to the M/T so far I'm happy with them. But I did love the M&H's, and I miss the 28" tire height. Right now I'm running 4.30 gears and that is way to steep with the whipple. the first run I hit the rev limiter. I lowered my shift light down to 5800rpm to try and avoid hitting the rev limiter.

What RPM are your guys shifting at?

Yes times should be better.

So I went out and did a quick data log... knock sensor voltage both one and two, rpm, Throttle postion, maf and spark.

Did a run through the gears 1st all the way through 3rd WOT. the datlog makes no sense to me...

The first thing that REALLY bothers me is it says I hit 6400rpm on my shifts. I was shifting on my shift light which is set at 5800... also the pedal postion dosent jive with the RPM knock sensor voltage climbed with RPM but I dont know what is within spec and what is not. KS1 voltage (6265)did get high then KS2 (4513)..

ok well I went and got a custom dyno tune today...MUCH better.

With the custom tune I added 53RWHP and 71 ft lbs RWTQ.
I also discovered why the datalog from above made no sense to me. The drive by wire was holding my throttle body at 47 percent closed even though I had the pedal to the floor untill I got into 3rd gear.

Topped out at 437 hp and 448 tq on a mustang dyno.. 11.5 to 11.1 AFR

Color me happy now back to the track again...

Great news..My tuner found close to 60 whp over the supplied canned Vortech tune after we relocated the IAT and custom dyno tuned it..Your air/fuel looks good too..Cant put a price tag on a great tuner hey?:thumb:

Ok so I finally got back to the track, tonight

Some new personal bests

60ft 1.6841
330ft 5.1342
ET@594 7.4211
1/8ET 7.9189
1/8MPH 90.39

60ft 1.6940
330ft 5.1157
ET@594ft 7.3699
1/8 ET 7.8620
1/8 mph 91.44

MPH is there.... 60' is getting much better; Lowered rear PSI to 17lbs tonight. Still think there is 3 or 4 tenths left in there somewhere....maybe my shifting... I data logged 3 runs tonight so now I can go back and look at those.

My gears are killing me I'm hitting the rev limiter right at the 1/8mile actually about 15 ft before it.
All in all better but not there yet...

This is the first supercharger I've ever owned and I'm surprised how different I have to drive the car then when is was N/A

I'll try getting the time slips scanned and post them up. I tried taking a picture but the damn track is skimping on the ink....I can hardly read two of them.

Ah, much better.

So, looking at my timeslip database, when I was turning 92 mph in the 1/8th, my best ET was a 7.38, but most were in the 7.4X range. On those same passes, I was in the high 11.5X's and low 11.6X's in the 1/4 mile

Ok So my thinking is correct..... I peeked at the data logs last night...Something still off about the throttle position; and I'm a little concerned about the RPM readings I'm getting, because on both of the 7.X runs I know I hit the rev limiter, but only at the finish line. according to the data log my RPM at the finish line was lower then my 1st to 2nd and 2nd to 3rd shifts.... Will look at this more.

Thanks guys for helping diagnose this.
