Reseraching a caliper that I can use with stock rotors, I spoke with Jeff Ritter who is working on applications for AP's new design.

http://www.essexparts.com/shop/competition-brake-calipers/ap-racing-cp8350-caliper.html

Jeff is finishing up the design for Corvettes and I am trying to motivate him to work on our cars next.

I'm sure if he has some possitive interest from our members only good things can happen. I will send him a link to this post so he can monitor the resposes but also suggest you take the time to e-mail him @ [email protected]

ive been looking for this for quite awhile. No one says we NEED bigger rotors. but a nice 4 or 6 pot caliper for stock rotors would be fantastic. maybe even gain some clearance front or rear.

I did it on my Porsche 944. Wilwood makes a 4 piston that fits under stock wheels on stock rotors. they sell like wildfire

That looks like a nice upgrade. The wide variety os pad choices is an advantage too. We can't get all fo those pads for our stock calipers.

But bigger caliper on a small surface doesn't allow for cooling properly.. so a huge caliper on a tiny rotor isn't worth the money and time

Most clearence problems aren't with the diameter of the rotors, it's that the caliper is too fat and doesn't clear the inside face of most wheels.

Don't believe these calipers are any bigger - Just 4 piston instead of 2 giving more, even surface pressure. As I said in my other post , I'm happy with the stopping performance of the stock setup (w race pads) but the heat generated has disintigrated the platic pistons that Ford uses (twice). Would be happy to rebuild stock rotor with better pistons but ould not find anyone who makes a rebuild kit.

A 4 piston caliper HAS to be bigger. There would now be two pistons on the wheel side of the rotor where before there were none. This makes the physical size of the caliper bigger/fatter. If that makes sense. Not saying it won't work though, just saying it has to be bigger.

thats what i was interested in, 4 piston for the better pressure distribution. They could even use stock sized pads for all I care. I just feel better driving on a 4 piston. Its...symmetrical.

but that is a good point. The thickness of the caliper is the fitment issue...not the diameter of the rotor. Im just interested in not spending 3 grand on a front brake kit. Give me a billet adapter and some $800 universal calipers and im happy.

The reduction in pad cost (vs. D1001 Brembo Fitment) over two years is worth the price of switching alone, for DTC70s.

I like the 1 bolt to swap pad feature. Looks like a great piece. Definitely will keep an eye out on his site.

So if one decides to use this caliper, a custom bracket would have to be made to mount the caliper and what about the rotor?

Been studying the diagrams BrakeMan sent me. Appears we can easily adapt our stock caliper mounts by cutting off the upper portion and drilling/tapping 2 mounting holes (.125" higher than the hole placement BrakMan uses for their 12.11" rotor. Then use stock rotor

those are bad ass brakes. i would definitely be after them, but at 1100 for two calipers, its almost better to buy a set of gt500s.

Looks like a thicker pad with more compound options are advantages with the AP caliper. Does anyone know if the pads for this caliper are less expensive then the pads for the GT500 Brembos.

It would be nice if they worked with a 14 inch rotor. Then we could use the 2-pc gt500 rotors
