Didn't MMR try to make a 3v engine with coyote components with much issue?

Yes, and I have references on why they fail. I am still in doubt on how or why they did what they did or even if they are real coyote cranks because we had to customize parts they don't and there is simply no way to do it without them.

Ok, this is an experiment, an expensive one? you can say so but we are quite stubborn, I dont stop on the "that will not work" without an explanation of why, I try to check and measure and if measurements look good, go for it. I've read here that some builder said that pistons without pockets could not be used in a 3V, and it didn't looked to me this way, we measured and there is plenty of space, so we already have a couple of flat top projects running nicely.

We had a block with rusted liners that would need re-sleeving, crank, pistons, rods and bearings were about 1200$, on paper we knew the issues we may face but all looked "doable", someone very important in the industry took some measurements for me and we agreed that it could be "doable", when we got the parts together we found more issues but still looked "doable", we had the guy with the patience, knowledge and tools to mod the parts for us so we did it. I just had to be patient (I've bought parts over a year ago).

I already have at least 4 places where I know it can fail, but we will test it either way. If it works and holds, I think we can end with a really nice close to square engine for NA use, if it breaks, we will find what happened and learn of it (and I will start with another even crazier project that I already got parts for).

I am waiting for the broken ring from Mahle that would hopefully arrive this week and if all goes right, should be starting it the other weekend.

The final build plans are:

5.0L 3V-yote
Boss 302 crank (modded)
Boss 302 rods
Mahle 3.630 coyote +3cc pistons, milled.
FRPP 3VPA heads
127500/27113 cams and springs with limited VCT
Pypes LTs, O/R X and Magnaflow 3" catback.
FRPP intake manifold
FRPP 62mm TB
Coyote injectors
Airaid 2010 CAI
RSG S197 T-56 2.29 1.60 1.21 1.00 .84 .54
Aluminum bellhousing, exedy clutch and separate clutch reservoir with SS lines.
4.10 or 4.30 gears, depending on how it works with the current 3.73 and how high power peaks.

This setup won't see boost, I don't think it will hold, heck, I don't even know if it will hold NA as is, lol. Sleeve thickness are quite close to coyote, what is missing is the block strength around it, will it crack?, will a sleeve move and collapse? we will find soon.

Yea I was just asking, I have no dog in the fight other than I hope Lito gets this thing working. I think it is a great project and wish I could tackle something like this. Hell, I'm just praying for a working regular nothing special about it built 3v. I can't even make that happen so I know this would never happen.

I think it's a cool idea but after seeing how much my last aluminum block flexed/warped I would have liked to see this project done with an iron block.

Aluminum is a stiffer material. Why are you on this iron block kick?

Keep in mind they aren't all designed the same. The modular aluminum block is supposed to be one of the strongest made. IIRC the pushrod small block Ford motors break around 550. I've never had it happen but I do know people who have done it.

I agree...but after seeing my last engine which was the modern aluminum modular block and how bad it had warped and flexed he told me to do the iron block. He has dealt with many more big blocks than modular since he is big into drag racing, but has many years of experience.

He has yet to steer me wrong so I trust him and his recommendations.
