Hey guys I have been lurking aorund here for awhile now and doing my best to learn exactly how our engines work and what comprises them and I have learned a bit but it is all really unclear and I would like to think I am not the only one who feels this way.. some major questions/comments that need clearing up...

1. The shortblock is a block with a rotating assembly in it and that is it?

2. A Longblock is a Shortblock with Heads and Cams?

3. What comprises a rotating assembly? (Pistons and Rods???)

This is just scratching the surface I know but I feel these are def the bigger ones that once I understand will defintely help me move forward in understanding exactly what these engines are comprised of and how they work... thanks inadvance guys. :beerdrink:

1) You are correct!

2) You are correct!

3) Rotating assembly is crank, rods, and pistons....

Shortblocks can come with different features....such as: oil pan, oil pump, some of the main necessities of an engine...the more core parts....

Longblocks are the same way...they may involve an intake, valve covers....

But, you have the main idea....you will learn a different bundle of meanings for each....

Note: A bare shortblock is a shortblock with out any guts.......
Uuuuuuhhhhh..........no fuckin' way.

Alright... so Shortblocks can be anything from a bare block to a block with a rotating assembly?
No.
That's correct..
That's incorrect.

No such thing as a "bare shortblock". There is a "longblock" and a "shortblock" as described above. A block with nothing in it is just that.........a bare block. Period.
