Nitrous Outlet plate install on Coyote

Just wanted to post up a little run through of my install experience with the Nitrous Outlet plate kit for the 2011 Coyote. Prior to install the car only had simple boltons: JLT CAI, Lethal O/R H pipe and a TORQ tune. Other than that, just suspension, gauges and appearance mods.

What I purchased from Nitrous Outlet and LRS:
Coyote Plate Kit w/10# bottle
Purge Kit
Remote Bottle Opener
Console switch panel
Progerssive Controller/Window Switch
Autometer Cobalt 2-1/16" Electric N02 pressure gauge (JEGS)
SOS dual pillar pod (Lethal)

I will say that install was not too bad. I had absolutely NO experience with N02 systems before this but am pretty mechanically inclined. The instructions that came with the kit were not for a 2011 and Nitrous Outlet doesn't currently offer instructions specifically for the Coyote platform. I've read that Nitrous Express has the same issue. I did talk to the guys at Nitrous Outlet and they apparently have something in the works for this. On top of that, the guys at Nitrous Outlet were EXTREMELY helpful, offering any support they could over the phone for questions I had along the way.

So, like I said, install was not too bad. Basically just plumbing and wiring, not rocket science. The kit comes in two forms. The base form comes with SS braided hoses that go from the fuel and nitrous solenoids to the plate. They offer an upgrade that comes with pre-bent SS 5/16" hardlines that replace those braided hoses from solenoid to plate. The hardline kit also comes with a custom mounting bracket to mount the solenoids in a specific position in order to utilize the pre-bent hardlines.

So originally I ordered the base kit with all hoses. The problem I ran into was that the hoses are a little longer than they needed to be for where I was installing my solenoids. That posed two issues: a "congested" look with the slack in the hoses kind of bent and routed where it could be and the fact that the hoses are so stiff that that slack was kind of hard to manage.

After doing the install with the hoses I decided to opt for the hardline addition. When it came in I had a few small issues. IF I was either not using an electric pressure gauge or if I had the sending unit for that pressure gauge mounted differently the issue would not have come up.

So, since I had the sending unit mounted directly upstream of the nitrous solenoid I had a bit more bulk to work with. There is a (blurry) pic of the sending unit, nitrous solenoid and purge solenoid all plumbed together attached. The sending unit is on the left in the pic, so that is where the nitrous input line hooks up.

I was able to manipulate the hardline that Nitrous Outlet sent for the fuel solenoid but the one for the nitrous solenoid was not even close to what I needed for where I had to mount it. I decided at this point to get some lines and try bending them myself. I picked up a tubing bender and cutter from Northern Tool for about $25 and got some straight lines send from Nitrous Outlet that were already flared on one end for the AN fittings. I've NEVER bent tubing before, it was not exactly an easy task, lots of trial and error and bending and re-bending. In the end, I'm pretty happy with how it turned out. One thing I'd definitely recommend is to use blue loctite on all the NPT fittings for the nitrous instead of liquid teflon. I had no leaking issues on the fuel side but had a few with the nitrous side. I removed, cleaned off the liquid teflon and used the loctite, leaks gone.

With everything all buttoned back up it is not very noticeable under the hood. Since I have a Brembo car, there was no spare tire. That empty spare tire well provided a perfect place to mount the bottle. I'd have to say my favorite part of the system is the switch plate in the center console, very discreet. Still need to stick some velcro on the progressive controller (also in the console) so I can stick it to the side and get it out of the way.

Performance wise I can't really speak for it yet b/c I have not been able to spray. We are working on a tune and I should have it early next week from TORQ. When I have that I'm going to the dyno (haven't dyno'd this car at all yet). I'm going to put it back to stock with the exception of the O/R H pipe and do a pull. Then put the CAI back on and the tune and do a pull. Then do a pull with a 100 shot. I'll post that up when I do.

I'd really recommend buying from Nitrous Outlet/LRS. The guys at Nitrous Outlet provided invaluable support and customer service. I can't thank them enough, especially Chris.

Here are the pics of the finished job, some with the intake removed so you can see where I mounted everything and then some different angles with everything put back together.

Thanks man! Good talking to you by the way. I ended up figuring out that the negative coil pack wire was a good source for a tach signal, just had to adjust the settings on my progressive controller.

I also ended up going with the brown (falling voltage) wire on the TB harness for the WOT signal. It seems not to hit minimum voltage until the pedal is ALL the way down.

Nice set-up bro.....now get out there and spray it once you get your tune.....and get a video if you get a chance.....You gonna put it on the dyno or take it to the track soon??

Thanks man. I can't tell you how f'n ready I am to spray this bitch! I've ridden in boosted cars, but never nitrous so I'm anxious.

First thing I'm going to do is go to the dyno and do some comparison tests: stock, boltons w/tune and a few different nitrous jets.

Moving to Houston next month, so I'm hoping I can find a good track around there. I don't live anywhere close to one now. Also need to pick up a set of DR's or slicks for that...

Yours is a 2010 right? What size shot did you run for the ET in your sig? You have DR's or slicks out back for that?

EDIT: Good ole work computer finally loaded your avatar pic, didn't see that it was an 05-09 style

It was a 125 shot with slicks out back that I borrowed from a buddy.....When I made that pass I snapped the reloc. brackets and broke one of the LCAs and cracked the other....I haven't been back to the track since then though...its about time to hit the track up again..... and yea it is a 07.....

They were the bolt in......I now have welded.....and went with the UPR Billet LCAs....Non-Adjustable.....I like the solid LCAs better than the adjustable ones.....Guess it is just all in preference.....

I'm glad everything went right. Still collecting parts to finish mine off.

I'll be running the 10# Hardline Nitrous Outlet Kit
Their purge system
Their center console panel.
Their controller was on backorder so I ordered the NOS progressive nitrous controller.
Their blow down tube.

Last but not least..Nano Nitrous 4500 Pressure control system.

Need to get plugs, tune, NHRA blowoff valve, and fuel pressure cutoff switch to complete it all. Probably more stuff than needed but ehh!

It'll be my first time using nitrous as well.

I think Seer had some experience with the fuel pressure cutoff switch. He may want to chime in but I believe he discovered the FPSS that is for our car didn't really work as the 2011+ has variable fuel pressure at times. If I remember right he had the one from Nitrous Express...

You'll need to reduce the sensitivity on the FPSS to get them to work properly for the Coyote.

By the default the one I got from NX was set to 35 psi (meaning if fuel pressure dropped to 35psi it would deactivate the system).

Well I've found our fuel system can drop below 35 psi under normal operation.

Thats weird,
I can see fuel pressure varying at part throttle but not full throttle. At full throttle the computer increases voltage and flow.

We did not have an issue at all running a fuel pressure safety switch on Scotts car. It works great.

Greg, Install looks great.
Thank you for all the kind words. Rick at Amazon Posted a link to what he had to do to use our hardline version on his car using the same JLT cold air. Here is a link to it.

Let us know how you Dyno.
Dave

I'll definitely put up the dyno numbers when I have them.

As far as fitment, I did see this thread. My main issue was having the sending unit just upstream of the nitrous solenoid, just added that little extra bulk and ended up running right into one of the coolant hoses.
