hey guys I just installed my shortblock its got eagle rods cp pistons etc, standard bore. i got everything back together along with a new to me clutch and have a noise that almost sounds like a valve tap coming from around the bell housing area, sometimes its very loud and sometimes you cant hear it. any ideas on what it might be? I think it might be the flywheel cover or something like that, but want to have a bit of input before I pull all this shit back out. thanks again!

The first few days after my build I was having a lot more buzzing/vibration/noise than before. My mechanic buddy drove it and suggested I loosen up the motor mounts and transmission mounts. Then with the parking brake on load it up in reverse and first, alternating a couple times. Then rev it up a couple times in neutral. Then go back and retighten the motor and transmission mounts. This allows everything to relax and settle into its natural position instead of being bound up. It did help quite a bit, although my new motor with cams does vibrate a bit more than the stock motor.

I don't feel like its a vibration, its more of like a tap tap tap tap or clunk, how ever you want to say it. it will speed up with engine rev but sometimes its not there at all, and it sounds normal.

Bad phaser? Mine made a racket intermittently right after getting the motor together. PITA swapping it out without pulling the front of the engine off again, but I wasn't about to go through all that if I didn't have to.

Mine makes some different noises than before like valve noise on each side down low but it cant be as I just swapped over heads and everything else. Only thing different I used were the steel tensioners. No codes, good oil pressure etc??

The wiring harness likes to get pinched between the engine and transmission bell housing. I did that last year and had to get my mechanic/electrical specialist to patch the wiring harness back together. I had completely severed the wires going to one of the O2 sensors.

checked the wires, everything looks good. Code says it is running rich. I'm having a rough idle and a hesitation. When I'm wot there's not an issue. do you think the slightly lower compression motor is making it Do this? I have my 93 race tune. could it be To much fuel for the cup ratio?
