You doing the track day at ECR? I'll see you there. It will be my first race day with all my changes so my head will be spinning.

I'll be there too instructing
Temps should be good

I really want to see my new Carbotech XP16 and new front rotors do.

I also heard ECR did some track improvements, don't know what they are yet....maybe ramps for jumps.....lol....

RIP - You will be missed
Thanks, Kelly.

Now for the question I should have added to the earlier list - what does that mean in terms of the chassis side UCA bracket for those of us with "older S197's", as in 2008-ish?

Norm

This UCA is specifically designed for the 11+ Mustangs.

If someone with a 2005-2010 wants to run THIS specific UCA in their 05-10....they have a few options. (I highly recommend this mod, btw)

You can buy our UCM002 for a 2011+ Mustang, with this UTCA033....and bolt it right in. Some people have said it doesn't work, most say it works fine. The reported issue is the chassis side forward mounting hole/bung. I have received feedback that the hole is too small. Well, if it is, that's not hard to "fix"...

You can, if you dare, get the Drake Mount. This is a direct fit for the 05-10's.....but the UCA Mounting bolt hole is only 14mm, instead of 18mm. Now, the forward most hole, towards the front of the car, will enable you to use the longer 11+UCA.....but again, the hole is only 14mm.

So - you can use the drake mount, drill the hole, or use the BMR Mount and hope it fits....if it doesnt, simply modify the chassis forward hole (enlarge it)

Sorry OP, for the thread jack. If you guys want to discuss this further, feel free to make a thread. I have all kinds of info in this brain, and like to release it through the keyboard.

Report on the activities of the past weekend...

Well, I had somewhat of an impromptu track day on Saturday, my boss said I needed to go to Dallas Thursday and Friday, so I figured...well since I'm down there anyway, let's go to the track Saturday!

This wasn't a day put on by any sanctioning body, just an open track day.

At the hotel that morning...not cornering related but still cool, these were the ones on the open trailer, there were two more enclosed race trailers in the lot too, can't hide money!!!

Anyway, out at the track. I ran in the blue group, and that was alternately scary and fun. First session out, still 50 degrees, green track, very slippery. I used this as a check ride for going solo, and apparently I passed. Session two, I lined up too far to the back of the group. It was interesting exercise in getting through traffic though, so there's that. It's amazing how some people can't get the hang of a proper point by, just stick your arm out the window and point to your left or over the roof...no big deal, right? I was stuck behind a white BRZ that would just wave at me a couple times, with no indication whether it was a passing sign, danger-ahead signal, which side I should go on, etc. Anyway, about 10 cars wagon trained behind this guy. I later saw him off playing in the grass in another section...wonder how he got in this group. Also in session two, two cars simultaneously spun out in front of me on turn 1, I managed to get through them unscathed, and then an E92 M3 spun behind me too! Craziness.

Anyway, third session, I went to the front of the group, and had a good time there. Gridded first, first on track, and probably 5 clear laps before I caught the back of the field. My 5 hot laps were all between 2:08 and 2:10, so I'm at least gaining some consistency, if not a ton of speed. I'd really like some more instruction at this track, I know there's more I could do to get better. There was a problem with turn 10...they had been working on the track and put a line of cones right through the line I've been told to take, so I could feel myself going slow through there. I've also got a rear axle hop thing I need to track down- chassis setup gurus- in high-speed downhill braking, the car's rear axle will hop around, only in two spots at ECR, and they're both downhill, and kind of rough pavement. Solid axle thing? Spring rate thing? My foot needs to work better?

Here's my fastest lap, complete with near-spin at the end. I didn't do any brake maintenance before this day...and I ended up feeling it. The pedal needed a bit of pumping to make it work on the last couple laps. Anyway, my mission for the day mostly fulfilled, car and driver intact, and a 200 miles drive home looming, I decided to pack it in. Successful day...pictures and video below.

faster black horses were there too...

Ya know? It is truly amazing. While I've only done the one day myself, it was a pretty easy concept to grasp & I had no troubles with it.

Well, that's step one, as I have been told in my own track day thread.

Sounds like a fun day, and some great hardware to look at & run with.

@csamsh

The guy in the BRZ pissed me off too. Was he out there the second half of the day? If he was I hope his hand signals improved. Next time we should all line up in the first few spots on the grid and have a good time.

Well...I saw him once in session three, but he wasn't on asphalt!!! Off playing in the grass.

Watching your video confirmed one thing I was thinking after this weekend. I need to grow a bigger pair in the turns. I slow down too much. I was better in my second and third sessions and I did drop several seconds in lap time later in the day, but I just need more seat time and bigger balls.

How much did you cut your times with the rivals as opposed to the hankooks? I'm curious as too how much you think the extra 10mm in width and different brand has made.

Just a tip, if that video was from a gopro, it looks like spot metering is turned off. That's why it's difficult to see outside of the car.... the outside is too bright.

Here's what I do. On turn one give it up and late apex to line up for turn 2. This will allow you to gain more speed coming out of turn 2. You should be touching the curb coming out of 2 when you track out and at this point you are WOT.

Turn 3 brake at 100' mark and slow the car down enough to make the turn. Turn after you get your front wheels on the black surface to the right of the track. Start with maintenance throttle through the turn, so that you on it hard when you come out.

Turn 4 and 5. Late apex turn 4 so you get the car straight going down the hill into the cement patch. You want to try and straighten out turn 4. When going down the hill get on the gas and go fast. Once you hit the cement patch hit the brakes and trail brake. Go at turn 5 getting close to the curb towards the apex and track out all the way to the curb. Once again you should be WOT coming into the straight.

Going into turn 6. Most people hit the brakes way to early. They tend to hit the brakes before the crest of the hill. You should wait until you come over the hill and hit the brakes around 200' marker. The bumps on the track help you slow down. When Elvis is waving to you, you did it right. This is important for speed. Start maintenance throttle so that you are on it as you come out of the turn. You should be touching the curb when you track out. Get on it and enjoy this fast straight away.

Turn 7: Brake around 300' mark and then late apex the turn. Get your tires on the black marks on the right side of the track and then turn in. There are two lines you can take. The first is to get parallel to the inside curb so that when you come over you can set up for turn 8. Second is to get your two left tires just where the cement patch and the black top met. There's a slight ridge that acts as a bank and you can carry more speed through the turn. Caution when you come over the turn you need to straighten your wheels out for a tenth of a second or you will spin out. Then stay to the left to set up for eight.

Turn 8: If you set up right for this turn your on the gas the whole time into the short straight.

Turn 9: You want to late apex. Get your front left tire on the black marks to the right and then turn. Start maintenance throttle right away. As you coming out of the turn you speed should force you to the outside curb. Get on the gas hard into the short straight.

Turn 10:
There are two ways to do this turn. The first is when you get to the curb out of 9 head towards the cement patch. You can use that to slow down a little. Then head towards the apex. When your coming out your speed should put you at the curb on the left when tracking out. The other way is when you get to the curb coming out of 9 is to stay to the right and when you get to turn 10 hit the brakes then turn and start maintenance throttle. Then get close to the apex and track out to the curb and then on the gas WOT.

Turn 11: People tend to slow down way to early and way to much. I get on the brakes around 175-200' then late apex the turn. Maintenance throttle through the turn so that when you track out you go all the way to the edge. You want to be able to see the faces of everyone standing there by the small wood tower. When you come out you can see how well you did by their reactions.

That's how I try to do it. I don't get every turn right on the same lap yet. However, I am working on it.
