Looking to buy a set of nt05's for my whip soon, I'm gunna be putting them on an 18x10 rim I'm jw if anyone has experience with these tires in terms of what size fits best? I know the nittos tend to run a little narrower than other brands so I'm stuck on whether I should go with a 275/40 or a 295/35. I don't want a stretched looked and I'd like to have a little bulge as possible so I'm not sure which direction to go. Any help would be appreciated.

Yeah I've heard and read a lot of good things about them and there nicely priced that's why I wanna go with them.

The 45 wasn't too tall for you? I've also read that the 555/r are the narrowest of the bunch that's why I'm curious of the nt05. I had 555r on my last car that were 315/35r17 on a 10.5 rim and they fit flush. However I wasn't to happy with how they performed, they were awesome for he first couple thousand miles then the grip went down considerably.

I have 275/35R19's on 10.5's up front and they are slightly stretched.

Quick google-fu turned this up:

Post claims they are the 295's.

Are you talking about NT-05 street tire or NT-05R racing tire?

Because the NT-05 is NOT a good tire. It overheats far too quickly even for autocross use, and it wears out too quickly for street use. You'd actually be better off with the '555 G2.

That's why I upgraded to 305's over 295's. The 295's looked good but I wanted a little extra sidewall to match up with the 255's mounted on 17x8's. I wish 315's were an option in the aspect ratios I want.

I autocrossed on them just fine without feeling like they were giving up. I'm not the fasted in the world, but I certainly am not out for a lazy sunday drive...

And how are the 555 g2 tires? They had caught my eye but I wanted to make sure I got a tire sticky enough for good traction I should add I'm running a procharger kit and right now I'm blowing the tires off but then again it's because I have the crap sumitomo htr z 2 tires they might as well be made of plastic. I had better traction with my 235 perilli

Well, the reviews I read claimed that the '555 G2s were at least as good as the '05s. I have the original '555s for daily use, and they're fine for that. But I also have a mostly-stock Coyote.

I have honestly heard very few positive things about the '05s among corner-carving circles. They were a decent tire when they came out years ago, but Nitto hasn't really kept that model up to date.

If you're really worried about rear wheel traction, you could go with '555 G2 on the front and '555R drag radials on the back.

Sure, the NT-05 is dated. But how do you overheat any tire in a 60 sec autocross run ?

I had the 555r on my older mustang and they were great at first then after a couple thousand the grip went down a lot and they were like regular summer tires that's mainly why I've been looking at other models of tires.

But I may start looking into the g2 more I see them available in 295/40

The 555R only has a 100 tread wear rating. They are only 5/32 thick to begin with. With no burnouts, folks typ see as much as 15 K miles. But if the traction drops off after 2k miles, they are not a good option for a dd.

My car isn't a dd prob should have said that, she sits in the garage during the winter and only comes out on weekends when it's nice, I'll maybe put 2500-3000 on it a year so tire longevity isn't much of a concern.

IMO it's about perfect. But I'm probably looking for different things than you are when it comes to tires. I want my tires as tall as I can get them.
Fill the wheel well up, give me a smoother ride and some sidewall flex for better straight line grip.

Some of the best street tires for me were 275/60/15 drag radials. 28" tall, rode great and had really good traction. They also looked awesome imo. Keep in mind that I'm 50 years old and grew up in a whole different car world.

I've also ran sets of NT05R in 305/45/18 and they were a very good tire all around, even handled wet and cold pavement pretty well, well enough for normal driving anyway. The NT 555 in 295/45/18 is another tire I really liked for street driving.

Currently running NT555 265/50/18 in the rear and I have to say I like them too. I've gone through quite a few sets of wheels and tires over the years. The only ones that were crap imo were the Goodyear "Supercar" GT500 tires. No traction and super noisy. BFG KDW2 were so noisy they had to be replaced. All the Nitto and Hankook tires I've run have been relatively quiet. Since my car is a driver first quiet tires are a must. I think the NT05R were the quietest tires I've run with Hankook 112? evo right behind.

Have you considered BFG g-force sport comp 2's as an alternative ? I was also considering them, but they're not available in 275-35-20's and I didn't want to risk running 275-40's in the front, as I was concerned with the taller sidewall not providing enough clearance, so I decided on the Nitto NT555 G2's instead..
