O/R H vs cutting out cats

I'm thinking about getting an O/R h pipe (specifically the Pypes, they're about the only one I have found that makes one for use with stock manifolds). Is there any benefit to this over just cutting out the cats and welding in some straight tubing? I have a buddy with an exhaust shop, so my cost would be minimal. I'm figuring there would need to be some bungs for the rear O2 put in place? The car is an '06GT with a JLT CAI/Bama tune. Everything else is stock engine-wise.

Not much of a difference if at all of doing it the way of just replacing them with straight tubing.

Cat deletes will give you just as much gain as long tubes at your power level. Headers aren't going to make much difference until you're over 500hp IMO. Stock exhaust flows plenty of volume for your power level.

Cool. This is more about sound than anything at this point. $200 isn't going to break the bank by any means, but if I could do it for next to nothing that would be $200 I could spend elsewhere. I have free tunes with Bama, so they can turn off the rear O2 to avoid the CEL.

Agreed. I put down 313whp in my 3V with intake/ CMDP/ catless H Longtubes/ underdrive pulleys/ and a crappy Bama tune. Sounded great but IMO wasn't worth the money or hassle.

Looking back, if I was to do it all over again I'd probably skip all the above and just searched for a used blower kit. With how cheap they are it's not that much more expensive (if at all) to buy a supercharger kit versus a bolt on at a time.

My First mod besides a axleback was saving up for a used blower kit. Now im working on tires....lol

Technically they would be the same, just don't do what I did and use the non mandrel bent elbows from Autozone. They were raspy as hell.

I run the pypes off road h on my 06. Just make sure you use the inserts that come with it for the connections to manifold. If not the drivers side will most likely leak. Summit racing also makes one but it's not stainless steel. The pypes is so I chose that. Sounds great. Just pair with right axle back.

If you specify that you have no cats then yes they will shut them off, you can probably request that they be kept on though.

I think he is referencing the knock sensor issues the 5.0 was having with most tuners that was causing the number 8 cylinder issues. Its been figured out and they know better now and its nothing to worry about.

Joe, try this if you don't want to wait for a tune. It really works and your OBD will still show good cats.

If your going to take the cats out, unplug and leave the rear O2s out so they don't keep taking on the exhaust and moisture since they are not used. If there are bungs for the rear then get plugs from auto zone to cap them off. No sense in wrecking O2s not used
