Hi guys,

I’m new to the world of Mustangs. I picked up a 2007 Mustang GT track car. I’m told that the original motor ate a valve and was swapped for another 4.6 3valve from a donor S197.

I’m tracking the car at Thompson Speedway Motorsports Park in CT and when I hit the straightaway and top out 3rd gear just before redline, I am getting an ignition cut/rev limiter. It’s also throwing the P0198 and P0298 codes. The car has an aftermarket oil cooler and remote oil filter kit on it. I’m doubtful that the oil is actually getting too hot. I’m thinking that the oil temp sensor may be bad.

Here’s the strange thing…. I can’t find an oil temp sensor on the motor! There’s an oil pressure sensor on the oil filter boss and there’s an oil level sensor on the oil pan but I can’t find the dang oil temp sensor! Where is it?

Also, maybe worth mentioning…. the oil level sensor on the pan was hacked up to make the wiring harness pigtail connector fit. Maybe these connectors varied between years and the donor motor was different??

I’ll upload some shots of what I’m working with.

Interesting that your diagram calls that the "Engine Oil Temperature (EOT) Sensor". All the searches I've done have come up empty or call that an engine coolant temperature sensor. Weird. Thanks for the info!

I just ordered this: https://www.autozone.com/engine-man...IgnoreVehicle=false&isSearchByPartNumber=true

My next mystery to figure out is why the sensor on my oil pan had been hacked up. I'm hoping that the new sensor I get has the right geometry to plug right in to the pigtail on my harness. I'll update this thread with my findings.

Thanks again!

So, I was mistaken. My car is a 2006 not 2007. Also, when I went to the dealer to get a new oil temp sensor, this was before I removed the air splitter from under the engine and saw the hacked all plastic sensor in my oil pan, they gave me a brass unit with plastic connector. Once I saw the all plastic hacked up one in the oil pan, I figured the dealer just gave me the wrong part but after comparing the plug geometry, it looks like the wiring harness pigtail will plug into the brass sensor. I'll need to confirm this next time I'm at the shop. The diameter of the threaded portion of the brass sensor looks to be smaller than the threaded section of the plastic sensor so even if the electrical connector plugs in correctly, I don't think I can just screw the brass sensor into the oil pan.

There must be a simple reason for all this. I'm just pulling my hair out to find it.

Also, does anyone know if these cars will drop your rev limit if the ECU detects that your oil is too hot?

Rock auto offers what appears to be a generic oil temp sensor that looks like the modified sensor in photo 1. If you look at their website you will see what it looked like originally.

Never had an oil temp issue so I cannot speak first hand on rev limiting. If the car has an oil wrench light on along with the CEL lamp it is in limp mode and everything is greatly reduced.
