Car is a 2007 with a 2006 motor (15k miles on it) and a nearly new 2011 OE alternator. Is there a good walk through on steps to check? I did a search and it's a bit scattered. I checked for AC ripple and got .05 VAC, however when I shut the car off it jumped way up to around .40, then down to about .10 after a second. Wondering if that spike is what's causing my problems? Ideas on other things to check?
Car runs completely fine.

Im sure someone more knowledgeable will chime in but does a 2011 alternator even fit the 3V motor?

As long you are getting any kind of spikes, voltage drop, whining from your alternator you will loose your cam sensors. They run of the same harness and a bad diode will allow the ripples to travel through the harness and bug up the pcm from reading the cam sensor.

Happen to a lot of people and after 280k finally happen to me, sawp out the alternator back in business wasnt easy for me because M alternator had the ears shopped off for my Roush s/c setup I had to get the guy to re-use the old case and put new guts it in. got it all done within an hours time.

Why not? 2010 is when Denso took over Ford alternators and they are one of the most reliable in the industry

But are the mounting points the same for a 2011 alternator? That would be for a 5.0, not a 4.6. I used a Denso for a 2010 GT and it bolted right up and works with no problems.

Sorry, you are correct. I meant 2010. Coyote alt most definitely does not fit, it's mounted low on the driver side of the motor
