Went and picked up this old dog last night. 1 owner truck with 69K. It's a 84 F150 long bed 302 with a 4 speed. Interior looks like no one ever sat in it. Whole truck is in amazing shape. Needs a tailgate and the fuel pump is leaking.

Thoughts on upgrading this 84 302?
small block v8 hydraulic roller tappet camshaft and lifters?
upper intake and carb headers and some heads... GT40's?

Quick and dirty photochop on it...

I agree with the coyote swap... if you wanted to keep it more period specific go with a 5.0 out of an 88-93 mustang. they loved being boosted!

hahaa you boys must think I have money. lol

This will be a very budge build I guess I should have started with that. I like the idea of coyote swap tho. Maybe in the future.

Very nice. I'm about to embark on my own Ford truck build. I'm super excited considering I've never modded a truck.

What's fantastic about these trucks is how many options you have. What are your goals?

Shop truck look.
Not looking to get crazy with it just want a strong running 302, maybe change the gearing and posi track rear end, Level/lower it, and wheels. Once the shop is done then maybe paint and body.

What are you about to start playing with? I'm sure it's not an old 84 Ford. lol
Air Ride!

I would like to put air ride on this thing.

It's very easy to make a short box. Cut/weld/reinforce the frame. Buy a short box....er.....box. Get the right length drive shaft. And boom that just happen.

I have my old '86 that I have to pick up this summer. I'm dreading bringing it all the way back to TX. It's a long way, 15 hrs.

Plan is to pull the old 4.9L out and replace with a V8.

Nice. I like it.

My 96 F250 w/ a 7.3 PSD. Finally got around to ordering everything for the suspension and hope to have her up and running this spring. Needs some rust fixin in the bed and cab corners but that's about it. I'll make a thread once I really break ground on the build.

nice - I had a pickup in high school, and I want to get another one once I hand over my 10+ year old civic to my kids in two years...

I'll be watching this build!

Almost the same truck. Not sure what year they started changing the bodies.

A gt40 explorer motor with a mild can would be a good option, already has a roller can setup and has the best breathing fuel injected top end they put on a pushrod 5.0 (nearly identical to 94-95 mustang cobras).

I love these old trucks. The parts are so cheap. I purchased this 1986 5.0 auto 4x4 for $600 and put $500 into it. I sold it for $3500 and bought my Kenne Bell for $2800. I do this constantly. And is how I make extra money.
