I got some Brembo calipers that I have sanded down and cleaned up nicely. I want to either powder coat or paint them... I just want it to last and be done right and not fade or flake off! Anyone have any suggestions or what have you done? Looking to do red as the color...

I got some Brembo decals to put on but should I clear coat over the decal? Or does it matter? Decals were sold as “high temp vinyl”...
I went to two different powder coating shops, One powder coat shop said they can color and clear coat with powder for $100 and the other shop said the would powder coat color and clear coat paint them for $200... which is the correct/best way?

Also been looking into the G2 brush on paint... or VHT or Dupli-color spray paint...

Also still haven’t ordered pads or rotors yet. Any suggestions? Won’t be taking the car to the track just a daily driver and some spirited canyon runs... was thinking doing some Napa or Motorcraft rotors and some decent pads, Powerstop, Hawk or?? Main thing I don’t want is dust! Black wheels here! Not sure what pads I have now on my stock brakes but the dust they create is ridiculous!

Also replacing the rear rotors and pads and installing stainless steel lines front and rear...

Anything else while I’m in there?

Thanks guys!

Powder coat is going to hold up better for sure. I painted mine, and used those vinyl decals over the paint, no clear. They're holding up good so far but I'm not too confident about the long term durability of the paint. Powdercoat is probably also easier to clean. I put maybe 5K on them over the summer, no issues, but I also didn't work the brakes hard.

Also, ceramic pads are the best for low dust. My first pads were semi-metallic and they were awful, tons of dust.

I think Darren painted his and put the decals under the clear. It looked good. But seeing as he never drove the car I don't know how they held up to the heat.

I would do powder for sure, or have a body shop spray them out. I got some great pads and rotors from a company out of NJ. Zeck Hausen racing got hooked up with him through stop tec and he knows his stuff. Learned more about pads a rotors in ten minutes then 4 hours on line. I believe I got posi-quite pads. The photo shows the rear rotor for a 2005 GT stock caliper. That caliper is painted with VHT paint. Wouldn't do it again.

Thanks guys, I think I’m leaning towards powder coating now but just have to decide who will do it... I talked to another shop today and they quoted me $250-300 to powder coat color and paint clear which is the highest quote so far...

I’m still questioning the clear coat, powder or paint? Anyone have any input on this?

I'm not really sure the clear is necessary...plus, the decals are cheap, if you have clear over it and something did happen, not only would it fuck up your clear but make it harder to replace the decal. Just my thought on it.

The G2 brush holds up very well. I did my old 2006 G6 GTP with them and back calipers on my 2013 Mustang. However, I would not use them on the brembo calipers. Reason is on standard calipers they have minor texture to them and breaks up the brush marks. On a smooth surface like brembo calipers there is no texture to them to break up the brush marks and you will see the brush lines.

If you paint them/ if have a body shop paint them, they need to use a high temp paint or it will never hold up. Most body shops do not use high temp paint for like blocks or headers.

I would suggest using engine block spray paint and do it yourself. Unless you can get a good price on powder coating. I do not know the pricing but I head powder coating is very expensive, how much I can not tell you. Only going by word of mouth. If you do it yourself I would skip clear coat only because I could not find clear coat rated like engine block paint of aprox 1000 degrees. Most high clear coat paint is like 350-400 and I do not know how well that will hold up

You make a good point, also could change the decal color if I ever wanted to...

Ended up powder coating them with no clear coat. Got new Centric rotors front and rear, extreme Z26 ceramic pads front and rear, and Russell stainless lines. Now just have to find the time to install them.

Thanks! Only ended up charging me $75!

I sanded and shaved them smooth, took forever but worth it! also took the pistons and seals out and cleaned them really well before dropping them off. Decals were $8 on eBay...
