I am keeping track of the costs on a spreadsheet. The cost has been somewhat mitigated by selling the whipple, engine, trans, rearend, and numerous small parts which come to $13K.

I have been trying to adhere to a strict budget--but I am not letting the budget prevent me from doing things correctly. A quick example---I was going to run a billet timing chain set, double pinned. However, I ended up going with a Danny Bee belt drive for many reasons. I planned on spending $200 for the billet set, but ended up spending $975 for the Danny Bee setup, a difference of $775. :boobies: :nk:

Took out the master cylinder today and "fixed" the problem I had with the rear brakes.

I was hoping the stock master cylinder was going to weigh 1,000 lbs, but it was not to be, it weighed 10. The manual set up I am going to go with from Racecraft weighs 2 lbs. I had to go manual anyway due to lack of vacuum, but I was hoping for more then a 8lb savings. I also went this route as it will allow more room for a taller valve cover---as its pretty close stock from the drivers side valve cover to the brake booster.

aerospace brakes has a kit to change the angle of the pedal ( to fit these model cars) that gives leverage and causes the manual to feel like power brakes.

Don't hold me to this but I believe LMR sells them , I know they sell the kits like that for the older models for sure ........ actually Maximum Motorsports sells a kit for the older style too may look there also .

Sheet metal valve covers came in today. Other then the electric water pump, I think this is it for all of the big items, other then the pistons.

Notice there are no breather holes. Thats because one will be drilled and a bulkhead fitting will be used -- and the vacuum pump setup I have pictured on post 398 will do the rest. I didn't go with the extremely tall ones, these are 3 1/2 inches high---since I am running the shaft mount rockers that do not use a stud girdle, 3 1/2 inches is enough for clearance.

Paul, what I hope for you is, you put this motor and car together and it turns out to be one of those that you can run for years and years with just a little freshning up once every couple of years, not one of those other kind. I won't mention the other kind, but I am sure you know what I mean.........lol. Good luck to you on finishing up the car and it staying together like white on rice.

Yep, thats the exact intention of the huge motor. I won't have to push it that hard at all to run the number. The mod motor with twin turbos or a large procharger would have been just as fast, maybe faster, but who knows how long the mod motor would last because you have to push it so hard. This is also why I am going a little over kill on everything. Did I need a Danny Bee belt drive? No. Did I need shaft mount rocker arms? No. Did I need a 9 inch rearend? 50/50 on that one. But point is I want to race, and I want this car to go a complete season without even touching it.

So the new steering wheel is in, I like the little chrome trim pieces as it will tie in nicely to the a/c ducts which have that chrome ring. You might be asking why the window wiper and turn signal assembly is still there. Well, I want the interior to look as stock as possible, and besides it weighed absolutely nothing anyway.

The gauges and gauge panel should be coming in tomorrow. I ordered some autometer silver face/silver bezel pro comp gauges that will match the tach nicely. In the picture below the face looks white, but its silver. I also ordered a 6 switch panel. I will be needing a new shifter, so I am leaning towards getting the hurst pistol grip with the trans brake button on the handle.

ALSO---the car is going in for the cage this TUESDAY! And guess what? It might be getting mini tubbed! We will see, but it may just involve moving the shocks inboard and notching the frame. Will know for sure on Tuesday. That would be sweet if I could run a 13.50 slick, or the 315/60/15 M/T DR

I thought that gear driven timing would be better thena belt drive system? you know more robust/stronger less chance of getting out of time/breaking. but i could be wrong.

A belt drive will dampen harmonics from the valvetrain much better than any chain driven system. In addition, high spring rates can (and have repeatedly) cause the timing gear to shear the pin off the end of the camshaft creating all kinds of havoc. We typically double pin the cam/gear to avoid this problem (as Paul mentioned in one of his posts).

Love everything Paul except the shifter. I'd reconsider that Hurst.

It will definitely be up there when finished. There and Vegas.

What shifter do you like? I just liked how the button was on the handle--but I am open to suggestions.
