I read all the hype and fucked up my hood drilling holes for hood pins, then came to the conclusion that I didn't need them after all. If your hood flexes then adjust the latch and four rubber bumpers. As long as it's secure then ignore it. The hood isn't going to fly off (unless you try to fix a nonexistent problem and end up creating an issue).

I ended up putting the Aerocatch latches in my hood just to cover the holes, but I never installed the pins. If you don't want to screw up the hood then just leave it alone.

That's what I was going to say, especially if it's going to paint get the low profile ones paint matched and they'd almost disappear

I agree with this completely. The hood is going to move around. That's fine. It will NEVER open on its own. Hood pins are a piss poor idea on an OEM hood, unless you just like their look.

I guess. I just hate how much the hood bows above 40-50mph. At 80-90 it looks like it is about to take off.

first let me say that i envy your car and your mechanical ability's.
as for your hood, i doubt it will ever open i drove from crook CO to
sterling CO at triple digits and it stayed closed.

Thanks for compliment. I sometimes wish that I didn't have the skill or facility to feed this hobby though... I seem to keep getting myself into projects like my new(to-me) '96 F250.

drive shaft came out in 10 minutes, the 4 broken bolts on the tranny
not so fast.

I installed a 3mm spacer on my GT500 when I put wheels on it and it actually fell off the studs and I didn't notice, was being held onto one of them. Went to back the car up and the sound I heard was horrid. Destroyed that spacer instantly lol.

Yep. I was 50/50 on it but my GF convinced me and we are going into together on the purchase and project. It was just one of those signs since I was a kid my dad had a franklin mint 1:24 model of a 96 F150 and I recall vividly the day he picked me up from school in a red f250 with a 7.3.

I got a call Saturday and a guy wanted to know if we had a preowned truck still in stock and before it he was on his way, 4 hours away. I was sitting at my desk and watched the truck pull in. I was pretty much speechless since I've always imagined owning this exact truck.

We have quite a bit of work but it's a blast to drive and it is funny how much attention it attracts.

I used to think like you do. I installed Scott Drake hood pins for looks but having left the pins out because I didn't want them stolen (the retaining cables rusted) had my hood pop during a "high speed" highway run. Fortunately the safety catch worked but the pucker factor nearly tore the leather from my seat.

Everything checked out with the latch and the stops are properly adjusted, but it still popped. The car only had 19k miles on it.

Now the pins stay in...

Everyone has found it pretty comical since I'm always driving a new vehicle and when I pull up to work wearing wingtips and an asshole shirt it doesn't compute. However, everyone absolutely loves the truck and I can't go anywhere without striking up a conversation with a stranger.

Plans for the truck?

Nothing major, but it does need a good amount of TLC. Biggest thing is that the frame is solid and the engine is very healthy.

So far my list includes -

*Swap rear gears to 4.10. This truck came with 3.55's
*Dana 60 Swap from a F350.
*New shackle mounts in the rear. They've rusted through
*Needs new rotors/pad and possibly one caliper.
*I would like to convert the rear to disc brakes
*Refinish the factory Alcoa's and put on new tires
*Needs new lower cab corners. The driver side is rotted out pretty noticeably.
*Needs a new front core support since the bottom parts have no weep holes and water builds up and rusted them out.
*Replace the dash bezel since the tabs have broken off
*Needs a new column shifter plunger
*Probably in a year I'll pull the engine to replace the oil pan since it shows minor seepage.
*Straight piped exhaust. No performance until I look closer at the engine. It's got 382K and I don't want to push an engine that's never been tampered with at that age.

I do plan on keeping it for a long time so I'd like to tear it down one day to the frame and put it back together.

A lot of work, but I'll accomplish it over time. I love driving it as is.

Still looks quite solid, up here the whole bed & bumpers would be gone
