Had Tillman speed install my Pypes LT headers, off road and retighten my axle backs.

It sounds great. Looks great. Feels like a nice bump in power. Smells like fuel :evillaugh:

Only 2 things regarding it.

1. Fitment was decent but not perfect. The header touches the steering. It is little by little making a groove in it. It also would vibrate when hitting on this 8MM bolt that holds on this thin, aluminum shield, dust shield probably held on by 3 bolts? The bolt was long enough to hit/scratch the passenger header when you hit a bump. I removed those two shields, one from each side and now there is no vibration or rubbing except for the steering. I make try and bend, (NOT dent), the header ever so lightly to give enough clearence.

2. I noticed the header is one piece, the x pipe another and the axle backs are the last part of the "full exhaust" but what about the part that goes over the axle? That always gets re-used? It is crushed bent over the axles which have to impede flow, no.? What would this section of exhaust be called? Can I buy a piece that bolts up to my Pypes mufflers and shorty x pipe?

Loosen the motor mounts, take a pry bar and push the motor to the passenger side for extra clearance.

The over axle pipe does not restrict flow, the pipe is oval instead of round. not crushed

Wouldn't the oval pipe change the exhaust pulse resulting in uneven or "tumbling" air exhaust pressure?

You can purchase aftermarket OTA (over the axle) pipes that are mandrel bent but they are pretty much worthless. The stock pipes flow extremely well. If you go with larger diameter ota's be prepared for fitment issues!

Gotcha'. I think I'll keep them. Not a huge issue. Just looks funny when everything is stainless steel and this pipe is brown haha. Fitment issues makes perfect sense as the stock ones look like they barely fit.

You can clean up the stock ota pipes by sanding/wet sanding with progressively less coarse sand paper. Just takes a bit of time and elbow grease! They will polish up to a mirror shine!

I have those same headers, and they fit like a glove, zero clearance issues, Do you have dropped or worn engine mounts? As for the fuel smell, did you purchase another tune for the headers? If not, your engine will not run correctly. Another thing, if your shop used O2 harness extensions, pull them out and throw them away, there has been a lot of damage done to engine because of those, your factory wiring will reach (just search on these forums).

Don't mean to jack your thread , but would like to know what the problem with the O2 extensions are all about.

Also, I have the same headers with the O/R X-pipe and I did have a real fitment issues, needed a new header all together.

Like i said before you bought them that according to Brenspeed the pypes were having a fitment issue so that is why the headers were hard to find due to pypes working on the issue. As far as the exhaust smell I was told by 3 or 4 guys on here that if you run Pypes LTs with pipes O/R X you should run HF cats or you would have an exhaust smell.
The fitment issue is why I did not order any yet as I am waitng for Brenspeed to get the new ones in. Also I am staying NA so I am running the HF cats for the sound and exhaust smell. I might be way off but I trust the guys who have helped me so far.

Would your exhaust smell any different with Kooks headers and Kooks O/R X?

Any catless exhaust is going to have a stronger "fume." This mostly depends on tune, cam, and octane. My car being dyno tuned and running excellent, cammed, and 91 octane has very little "odor" but if I throw 100 octane in it you may find me huffing the tail pipes.

There's no real power differences from HF cats to catless, might actually gain a little torque with HF's. I highly recommend getting a metallic cat for FI, and even N/A just to not skimp. I remember a member on here throwing down a lot of cash on a built motor and FI setup, just to put Kooks ceramic cats on his mid pipe and have the motor pop on his dyno run because the ceramic cats fell apart clogging his exhaust.

He is right about one thing, the O2 extentions really aren't needed.

Mounts? no. Drop, yes. 1 inch.

As for fuel smell, cat less always gives off a little scent. Not a big deal. Every car I have ever owned that i ended up modding eventually went catless and it would smell. It wasn't a complaint. More so just a comment.

No problem about jacking because I would like to know this as well.

The fitment issues were much worse than what I am experiencing.

What did they charge you for the install?

530 OTD with gaskets. Originally 600 OTD with gaskets but we dumped my old exhaust to someone. Fast and clean. Nice.

Lol at the 02 extension harness comment. Support your statement, too many people make false misleading comments.

Fitment issues with Pypes LT's? Since when? I have a set on my 05 as do several friends and NO issues at all. Did they change something or re-tool causing this change?

+1 on not needing the 02 harness extenders. If you have high mileage and want to just replace the 02's....you can buy them with longer pigtails already installed.

From another thread in "Chit Chat" on a LT install issue -Well tried some more today, passenger side would just not go in. Called Brenspeed and they hooked me up with pypes, got a new passenger side coming in a few days. Seems there was a week or so where the machines making em were a bit off

That sux about fitment issues, I did not have a problem. The smell with the O/R pipe is going away today, I kept getting complaints from the wife and the HF cats will get that off her list and leave room for something else....lol
