Simple question I just haven't been able to find info for some reason (maybe not looking in the right spots but I'm not sure - checked the website to no avail)...
Does the Hellion kit have an external wastegate and if it does, is the pipe re-routed into the exhaust or does it just dump to the atmosphere?

External and re-routed, and poorly and too close to my taste.

If you want to open it you can do it easily, just removing the joint and plug the downpipe with a water seal and a clamp. (obviously, there are better ways but this works and is easy and fast)

No no, I don't want it open. Sorry but the extra noise isn't my thing

It is close like Lito says, but one thing I can comment on is that it is in a good spot to prevent boost creep. I have a small gate 35mm turbonetics evolution and I dont get boost creep at all, even on the wastegate spring pressure with no boost controller. It holds it at 9psi. If the gate was in a bad position, it would spike and be not as controllable.

Another answer is when you keep it routed to the exhaust, it will only work till about 15psi. We had problems with the back pressure opening the gate after 15psi. We tore off that pipe and vented to the atmosphere and boost went right up.

I basically dislike the fact that they should have done it at an angle, not 90 as it is.

The other thing I dislike about the kit is it being draw thru, there can be backwash MAF issues and that the pipes go below the k-member and can easily be scrapped if the car is lowered.

draw thru, midly annoying WG placement, pipes WAY too low.
But they have great customer service, and ship promptly when possible.
Unless you're building a drag car though, a supercharger is much easier to work with.

true dat!

i based my latest revised piping on thier kit....and that was one thing i did, i angled the wastegate to allow the flow to enter more at 60 degrees rather than 90.

The pipes all go under the a arms of suspension when going forward and going back on both sides of car. I also have bigger problems with the pipe under the transmission than I do the pipes under the AArms.

Never had a problem with the pipes under the a-arms , my car is lowered.
Although my kit now is completely modified , pipes run along the side of the front rails, its also blow thru and I vent out to the atmosphere .

I've never had a problem with the pipes hitting anything on the S197 cars either. The older cars I have though.
