I've got a set of 18x10/9 wheels that I'm ready to buy some tires for and need your opinion on which to get.

Here's what I'm looking at:

NT555 in 285/40 and 275/40

or

Goodyear Eagle F1 Supercars in 285/40 and 255/45

How do they compare? I have the Nittos on now and like them but the F1 is cheaper everywhere I've looked. The only downside I see to the F1 is that I can't run a 275 up front. Your thoughts?

I'm also ready to pull the trigger on some new shoes for the pony. I have searched a bunch and what I found where the new Falken Azenis are the biggest non DR that I can get for the ass end. I do not want a DR for my DD. The rears I've been scoping are 295 40 18's. These coupled with the 255 45 R 18's are as close to stock diameter as compared to any others. Also as an FYI Discount has a $ 80 rebate going on on these up to 4/30/10.

More options to look at for ya !

Rolling thunder, not stealing your thunder.. I am also looking for similar sizes, just showing Black baby the Falkens.

BFG also has the T/A KDW

285/40ZR18 and 275/40ZR18 or 255/45ZR18

295/40 & 255/40, notice the smaller sidewall, I need to replace wheels & tires... have not decided if I will stay 40 or go 45 this time. I like the rake, but sometimes the front well seems a bit empty... thinking with my new CS front bumper I can up the sidewall without loosing the nose down appearance.

So how have you liked the Falkens ?

They look to have a good mix of being a good dry and wet street tire as well as a road coarse tire.
They do offer the 255/45R18 with a 27" diameter that may increase your side wall to where you want to be for that front gap. For me the 295/40 and the 255/45 are where I want to be in keeping the same overall diamater as compared to stock and not reducing sidewall to the 30 series.

They stick in the corners, not the best in a straightline dig but thats not what they're made for. Relatively low noise for the style/size, I did not have issues but I was really careful near standing water with them. I did unfortunately learn that they are REALLY slick when the temp is ~30 and they have no road time to warm up, 1 a-hole driver cutting you off and :mad2:. Although high performance summer tires on not made to be running in those temps (I was cruising to a car show) so can't say it was only these that would act like that.

Still trying to gather all the options for replacement wheels & tires.. it's in winter storage so not a rush.

If I go with the Falken's again, def the 295/40... the front like I said going back & forth, what might tilt the scale is I have a partially worn 255/40 from the accident as a backup now.

I would go with either the Nitto NT555 255/45/18 fr and 285/40/18 rear or BFG KDW NT with the same tire size or the Falken RT-615 255/45/18 fr 295/40/18 rear.

Do you use the Falkens on a daily driver? If so, how quickly do they wear / how many miles can i expect to see out of them?

I may decide to go with these in 295/255 over the nittos.

I'm running Goodyear Eagle F1 GS-D3's on my car. 275/40R18 on all 4 corners on Steeda Pentar 18x9.5 rims at stock height. These tire's have gone down in price on TireRack.com from when I bought them. They're not noisy, they grip really well, and they're not a problem when it rains.

Falken RT615s are really not intended for heavy cars like ours, if you mainly use the car on the street then it won't be a problem but if you ever start doing road course and back to back autox runs it will.

They hit their peak grip fast but it drops off as soon as the temps get HOT, they are not a bad tire but work much better on lighter cars (what tire doesnt lol)

At a 200 tread wear rating, expect 15k miles depending on driving. I would not expect to get anymore than that

Not dd, miles and wear I'd think 15-20. That's without burnouts but some layed rubber between gears

Dunlop Star specs, although they only come in a maximum of 275 i believe.

The bridgestone RE-11 i've heard is a very good tire aswell, i personally like the nitto NT05, its excellent in the rain but once you start to wear it down a bit its not so great in the rain anymore.

Kumho MX & XS
Bridgestone RE-11
Dunlop Star specs
Nitto NT05

Thats all i can think of off the top of my head

Interesting, the NT05 has better internet reviews than the 615's for dry AND wet, also low roadnoise comments and decent treadwear (considering the tire type).

I've had extremely great tire wear on mine, its hard to tell if the reduced traction in the rain is from the cold weather or the lower tread, or a combination of both.

Reduced traction as in when spirited driving in the rain or uneasy normal driving speed, avoidance of highway or similar? What kind of wear are you getting?

Did I already ask what tire sizes you are running? :stfu: Not sure what I'd run on the front, no 255 18 option, could go 275 but already had bad tramlining (mainly the particular roads, but still annoying).

285/35 front and rear.

Driving in the rain is ok as long as you drive with some sense, when they were new i was able to drive like an asshat in the rain though. I wouldn't drive highway speeds in heavy rain or small amounts of standing water, otherwise light rain and just wet conditions they're not bad.

I don't even know how many miles i got out of mine, don't really care... if they're worn down, replace em!
