i run the gt500/boss diff cover and i have zero venting issues. the relocated space for the spring vent really helps to vent off excess pressure.

I know this is an old thread but does anyone know what size thread the axle vent is? Want to add my catch can and need to get a hose barb for it.

Thanks

On the 07 GT, it is either 1/8" or 1/4" NPT. The fittings are cheap, so grab both to be safe.

Every one of our track cars gets a rear axle vent.

while we're bumping it up:

Any idea on the part number for the boss breather? Not the cover, just the breather that goes into it.

or the thread pitch?

If you're looking to mimic the 302S setup Ford puts in their cars, they use an All Star catch can.

You can pick one up here for $63.99

Once you add in the hose and fittings, you're looking at just over a hundred bucks to do an axle breather. You can run it from the vent in the axle, or if you have a new finned diff cover you can run it out of there and cap the axle.

This is how the 302S is setup.

UPDATE on my low budget vent (posted earlier).

I've run my vent for a couple of events now, mostly with satisfactory results. One thing however is that my hose ran a bit too close to the exhaust and has started to show signs of heat damage. I thought I had adequate clearance, but apparently not enough.

I'll see if I can get a pic today, but in general this is a plug (hah!) for the top of the diff cover as a better place to run your hose, that is, if it's available.

Best,
-j

you should wrap the hose with firesleeve like in my picture of Ford's setup

Here is my solution for my 2012 GT. Very inexpensive but durable and easy to install. Setup can be made to use in a horizontal or vertical orientation. I went with a horizontal mount under the car above the axle. Clears exhaust easily and allows for full compression or full drop of suspension without compromising the hose. It allows for any fluid to drain back down into the axle at cooldown.

Good eye, yes it is. Just be sure not to thread the fitting in to far. You want the hole with the fitting to be the lowest point so the oil drains back to the axle.

Any issues with that 90* fitting smacking on your over-axle pipe over bumps?

No, it is not even close and my car is lowered with the Roush Trak Pak suspension. It is only about 1/4" higher than the factory vent tube.

I have a Bob's autosport catch can and I can't run the included 90º fitting that's seen in Ponykix's picture because it's too tall (hits the exhaust). My car has similar KW equipment (same threaded collars) but instead the spring is lowered nearly all the way down on the collar. Under full compression, the fitting will hit.

I now have a finned GT500/Boss diff cover that I'm going to use for it's top mounted vent. Hopefully I can rig it without having any tangling issues. I'll cap the stock vent location and hopefully never have to worry about fluid all over the driver side of the axle/rear driver side wheel again. I wish this were an included feature on any track orient mustang (brembo/trackpak equipped cars)

My stock breather plug hits my 3" Magnaflow over-axle pipes. I want to replace them, but funds have not allowed yet. (I need a new limited slip first.)

I ran my catch can up into the trunk area, but I didn't want to smell it, so I plumbed the top of it back underneath the car and put the breather down there. It was more work, but solved the problem of limited space under the car vs. bad smell inside. The canister is a Be Cool radiator overflow with 3/8 fittings on each end. It has a built-in bracket/tab that made it easy to mount too.
