I need help asuring myself that my problem is what I think it is.

The rear makes a scraping sound when the car either makes a left turn or a U-turn also feels not a whole lot but a bit rough when making the turns a little and I mean little not much shaking while turning.

I know I can drain the oill and see if there is metal shaving in the oil but I cant do that is there any other way?.

if I dont answer quick please dont think anything of it I'm at work 9am-9pm
Thanks in advance,

if i'm not mistaken, there was a tsb on this issue. it was related to a problem with the clutch packs. i'm sure there are others who have experienced this. there might be a sticky somewhere with more info on this. i'll look around

it's posted on this site at the top of the tech section:

I'm not saying your diff is bad but the easiest way to check your diff is to simply jack up the rear end (stands better) and turn one of the tires. If the other tire does not turn with it - your diff is F'ed up... simple...:hi:

Is your car still in warranty? Take it o the dealer.
It could be your clutch pack so add some motor craft friction modifier and see if it inproves. This might take a few miles for it to run through th axle system and get to the clutch pack.

That's how the ford tech's here first approach.

I had the same problem and dealer said it needed new clutch pack at $710. I put in a 4 ounce bottle of friction modifier to see if it helps. If not just a reason to upgrade sooner than planned.

They both spin bro...? so my question is this, the diff doesnt necesarily have to be f'd up but the clutch pack might be right? but at the end of the day that pretty much is the same thing please excuse me I'm really new when it comes to rear ends and really what I'm trying to acomplish here is to asure myself that a new diff will deff fix the problem because they run about $699 for a detroit diff and $659 for a Torsen. so nothing cheap.

I'm pretty sure that on the back of the fill plug it is magnetized, check it and see how much metal is on it. A little bit would be normal, alot could be some real trouble. I agree with some of the other guys about a bottle of friction modifier, its a cheap test. If the friction modifier doesn't help then it might be a good time to upgrade the diff.
