If you've never done this before, don't start now... Do yourself a favor and pay someone to do the swap. Its not just simply remove and replace gears. You'll need to adjust backlash, replace a seal, etc etc.

im telling you to get it done professionally. i am an ex ford tech and ill tell you now your probably going to screw it up. most guys are going to skip a few steps and get the dreaded whine.
ive corrected many peoples mistakes and a few on this board....get it done the right way.

I tried rear gears on my Fox body back in the day and uhhh yeah, was not as "easy" as I thought and had the dreaded wine. Had it professionally fixed the next day and could have saved myself all the trouble in the first place but it was a learning experience, and I learned not to faux with the gears, haha. Good luck if you try it, just make sure you have a back up plan. :omfg:

if you do decide to get it done by someone...MV Performance in Statham does them for a reasonable price and they stand behind their work.

I had 4.10s done by a speed shop in town. No whine at all. Weird thing is they used high heat mineral oil after rebuilding the T-Loc with carbon fiber.
I thin it is worth the cash to have it done professionally.

I had mine done by a shop (excessive), have a slight whine but I don't worry about it. Its been about 6 months since the install. I'm glad I paid someone to do it, saved me a lot of time and aggravation. It was like $400.

I've got a slight whine as well. Told that was pretty normal for going with something other than stock.

No whine after my 4.10' install here, it's been about 3 months.
I also thought about doing it myself, then I let that thought go... lol

I had my gears installed 2 weeks ago and 0 whine. Those with the whine, which gears did you use? Ford racing or Motive?

I was going to do it myself and when I saw some of the tools needed exceed the price of install. A press for example.

What gears are you running? Thinking about going with 4.10s and if I can get no wine, then why not? Thanks!

yeah im going to 3.73s soon and im going to have a shop do it. I work as a tech and ive done drivetrain work multiple multiple times but i hate setting backlash and everything. especially marking the gears and seeing how they set etc etc. more aggrevation than I want to deal with. id rather pay 350 for my install w/parts.

I am running Ford Racing 4.10s., I did a full swap with bearings, seals etc and royal purple. I think the lack of whine is more the mechanic than anything else. A PROPERLY installed set should NEVER whine.

I asked about the brand you guys used because my installer said if I had motives he would NOT do the install. Although, he did not have an issue using the Motive gear kit.
