Thoughts on spherical/spherical ends on my upper control arm.

I have poly/poly now. I tried the delrin/poly(axle side poly) and my car didn't like it. Clunked like a mofo.
I am wondering what spherical/spherical could offer,

I don't care about NVH. Weekend summer car, nosiey, as hell as it is.

Just have a brand new upper spherical control arm I would like to use,if it is an upgrade if I just change out the diff end to spherical.

Intention is to have a great handling corner car.

Of course the more solid the mount is, the better the car's going to preform, and if you say it's already "noisy as hell" go spherical imo. BTW, I had an 04 Cobra with a solid axle, and it clunked with the sphericals, until I lined them up really well, and then used the jam nuts ultra tight. Then it was just really solid feeling without the clunking.

Merit to this, if you have adjustable anything, make sure the jamb nuts are TIGHT!!

I have a bmr poly upper arm with their mount that has tight bolt tolerance, so as to not klunk..... I also have a poly diff side bushing......it clunked until I got back under the car and re-tightened those jamb nuts on the adjustable part of the arm.

First off, thank you mods for moving this.

I torqued the bolts to spec, on a lift with the suspension loaded. I also have the upgrade mount from bmr.

Honestly the issue with the clunking imo was the poly end was on the diff end and this caused the poly bushing to do double duty,as there was no give at the spherical end. Once I put my bmr poly arm back in there was no more clunking and no more bottoming out of the arm on diff case as the forces were spread out between two bushings.

I am going to switch out the diff bushing for Steeda spherical bushing and see where this gets me withe spherical arm.

Thanks for the feedback please add if anyone has a concern I should watch for.

If you're looking for a fantastic UCA (and don't care about a little NVH from the Rod/Spherical end), seriously look no further than our UTCA038.

For the price point and the performance that you get it can't be beat.

If you'd like to discuss the build further feel free to shoot me a PM or to give us a call at the Warehouse!

Thanks, I have one here I am sitting on. That and I'm waiting to upgrade my spoo9 springs when Kelley gives me the go ahead.....

I would love to see that test.

I have a poly diff housing bushing that I THINK is why I am getting some noises.....I think it is causing too much bind.

No complaints at all towards my BMR poly adj upper arm.

The clunk with the spherical arm is the stock upper control arm mount flexing, you have to replace the UCA and the mount at the same time.
Don't forget the bushing in the diff too.

Also, in general, check your over the axle pipes for clearance against the diff.

My car has been noisy ever since I went with the aftermarket driveshaft and uca/lca with spherical joints. It clunks. It whirs. Is what it is.

I'm actually thinking of replacing my lowers with a dual spherical joint. If it is noisy already might as well say F it and just go for the gold. :)

Just because I am curious....do you think the driveshaft contributed to the nvh?

Yes I absolutely think the driveshaft contributed to the nvh.

Thanks....I think my ring and pinion set with 182k miles is contributing to my clunkyness. I feel like the backlash is out....... Even though I habe been told here that the amount of "slop" in the rotation of the driveshaft (and yes it's definitely coming from the R &P) is normal amount.....guess the only way to see is get it checked by a driveline place.

Some slop is normal and it is my opinion (for what it's worth lol) that some of the clunking you can get out of the car after going with aftermarket driveshafts and/or spherical joints in the upper are related to that slop.

With OEM parts in place a lot of those noises are masked.

Don't use spherical diff bushing with a spherical UCA. You're going to have a really noisy time if you do that.

Agreed. I was changing my shifting habits to not hear the clunk when the R&P gets the slack taken up. But then I decided f that. I'm just gonna shift it like I want, clunk be damned....it's really not that bad anyway. I have decided to ignore.

I used to care too. Not so much any more. As long as the car goes straight when the pedal hits the floor and doesn't wheel hop or spin like crazy then zero cares are given.

Just get a louder exhaust on the car if it bugs you. Aftermarket headers, catless midpipe, and a nice set of mufflers. Boom! :)
