I moved up to this area ( Midland Mi) a couple years ago. So between not growing up around here and with not working I only know a couple people in this area. So needless to say it sucks when you need stuff done. I have been putting together a list of go to places for different things but as far as window tinting I have no idea where to go and where to stay away from.

Find and ask your local mustang club, thats how I found my tint guy.

Another benefit of tint+louvers, the guys in lifted pickup trucks that try to blind you at night at the stop sign can't do shit.

I'd tint first and see if it's still a problem. Unfortunately, where I'm at, we can only tint rear windows:

Thanks for the photo. With mine being a silver 2010 it gives me a great look of what mine will look like tinted.

Got the Astra Hammond aluminum from Amazon.com about 4 or 5 years ago. Just had them powdered coated as they were getting scratched but they are worth every penny and look better than new now. Definately help cut down on the heat in the car. Just have the factory tint on my windows as I don't see all that great at night anymore.

How much did it hit you to get them powder coated again?

My louvers had a really bad bend in them because my father stepped on them (top most louver) while they were sitting on the floor. I rebent them but they never looked quite right because I used vice grips and could only get the top part so straight. Refinished them with some jbweld as a filler and some bondo putty, then sprayed 2 coats of flat primer just to get some coats on it. It looks good, you can no longer see the damage unless about 6 inches away, but I am thinking about having them professionally painted.

Oh yeah, I bought the louvers for $50 :highfive:

I was referered to a local shop by a highly respected guy in the 4x4 world. i went over and talked to them and was told $160 for all 5 windows . 5% on the 3 windows and 35% on the door glass. He did tell me that you are not supposed to do the door glass but he has been doing 35% for years with no issues up here. But just wanted to make sure I knew that there is a chance I might have to remove it.

^^ that's about right, just make sure you give it time to dry before using the window..I place painters tape over the window switches to enure I don't have a brain fart and try to use them.

I think I paid $200 for 35% on door windows, 1/4 windows, and rear windows. It turned out well, I had a small mostly unnoticeable bubble on a defroster strip area on the rear window but otherwise it was perfect.

Really!
Was that a brother-in-law deal????

I'm going to have to look into my 4 yr old louvers getting them redone.

Is it holding up better?

Was the first set she did, think she'll be charging more in the future lol. Just got them done last month and been parking in the garage but expect them to hold up great.

OP,

Check out this Willpak rear window louver we sell. It's pretty sharp looking and gives you that classic Mach1 style. It will definitely help with the sun and should still be legal for the street (check with your county). Or the other option is to get the rear window tinted, like others have already mentioned. Either way, I think these are both really good options for you case.

Hope this helps!

Ask him is he does ceramic tint. If you have never seen/used it, it blocks out heat and is a tint. It's crazy if you ever test a demo. What they do is take 3 pieces of square cut glass one with clear 70% ceramic, clear glass, and then regular 5% limo tint. Then they will have you place your hand in front of a heat lamp and place each piece of glass between the lamp and your hand. The 70% ceramic always blocks the heat from reaching your hand and the others don't. Obviously most people think being darker (limo tint) blocks out more heat, that's not the case because black attracts heat. Ceramic is more expensive but I think it will solve your issue and give you what you want. Call around your area and ask if anyone offers it.
