I'm not talking about head, rod, or main bolts, although it happens all of the time with ARP bolts and studs, but in my situation, I need new camshaft to sprocket bolts, and also cam cap bolts.

ARP sells what I need, but I only need 10 cam cap bolts, and the ARP kit is the entire 40, and costs 140ish, I have no problem buying new Ford TTY bolts, but I can almost certainly imagine I'm going to strike out with my local Ford dealer on availability, and/or price, but I will check.

My thoughts are just buy nice shouldered matching bolts from the hardware store and be done with it, and use the torque spec of the fastener if the local ford store fails me. Again, we're not talking high stress reciprocating assembly stuff here. thoughts.

The phaser bolts are specialty bolts, you aren't going to find them at the hardware store. I think this would be a foolish place to make up your own specs.

Check Amazon and/or Tasca Ford for the bolts.

Thanks guys, I appreciate your feed-back. Although after reading the specs, I did see that the cam cap bolts are 53 in/lb + 45* so that indicates that they are torque to yield, no? Either way I did re-use them and they "felt" just like any other TTY bolt I've ever dealt with. I will order the cam sprocket bolts from ARP or Ford tomorrow though, regardless.

You can try, but if it involves a special bolt you might not be able to find it a suitable replacement.

I have tried going to fastenal and some other places when I broke special bolts and you would be surprised what they don't have. Many car companies use lengths, pitches, and threads that are specific to the car and unfortunately the best way to fix a broke bolt sometimes is to head to the dealership.

I didn't think about you running a 5.0. I know the torque spec on a 4.6 is something like 89in-lbs. Usually the extra turn does mean TTY. And if that's the case I'd at least get Ford replacements. That's a spot I wouldn't want to take a chance on.

If I had to pay for Ford parts what the local dealer charges, I'd push my car into a lake. It's 2-3x tasca's #'s.

For future reference, the guy who ran Tousley's online parts sales is now running Tasca Ford's online sales. His name is Steve and he's a forum sponsor here.
