Booyakasha!
I know that the proper weight of oil is 5w-20, but I have six quarts of Mobil 1 5w-30 laying around. Will this be ok, or could it be detrimental to the car?

I run diesel truck oil in mine, full synthetic Shell Rotella T6. So, what do I know?

Only use 6.5 quarts if you like to post pictures of how much oil your catch-can catches.Kind of silly question, I have always used 6 quarts of oil during changes (and I believe that is what Ford uses), but have read a handful of people using 6.5 quarts.
What's the deal?
I guess we can debate that issue all day long. At the end of the day, just read the dipstick right?
That's all I do...And it hasn't taken more than 6 quarts. My disclaimer is that I do not fill it to the top "full" mark on the dipstick when the oil isn't at full operating temperature.I guess we can debate that issue all day long. At the end of the day, just read the dipstick right?

I've yet to lose a motor to oil starvation by following my owner's manual recommended oil capacity.
I always use the Motorcraft, as it is cheap and recommended as an OEM replacement. I heard the Mobil 1 filters are supposed to be better, but I haven't seen any data to prove it. I am always up for trying new things and I do have a lab here to analyze my oil if needed.Mine has always only taken six qts. Was using Mobil 1 5-20 switched to 5-30 after I saw the 5-20 comming out like water during the changes. May even try something up to a 40 weight in the summer here. Started using the new Castrol in the gold bottle. Anyone else trying it? As for filters, Mobil 1, have used the Motorcraft 820S, but never the orange Fram.
