My DD is boosted and was tuned by Lito, but I could use my previous tunes to see what changes he made over the whole tuning process. I also currently tune on my foxbody using the BS3 which Im sure some of it is relative. Im debating between the HP pro with a good online help forums VS the SCT advantage iii with a not so good help.

And yes there needs to be a tuning section added here, and I also think a forced induction section should be added as well.

I have the PRP and although I wouldn't even think of tuning my car, it's fun to be able to play with different options. To upgrade to the pro you have to do a little more then jump through a few hoops and it's big $$$.

Anyone know if the SCT III or maybe HP tuner can tune the new 2011+ 5.0s?

Sct has the software. Not sure about HP Tuners.

Is there a help forums dealing with the SCT iii software? Comparing the pricing it is almost half the cost of the HP tuner pro setup.

Also Bruce you mentioned that jumping through a few hoops and they will bump you up to calibrator with full access, what kind of hoops are you talking about?

One set of hoops is taking the sct classes. Either online or at sct. Another set involves attending a Greg Banish class.

Eric Brooks has a sub forum on his website just for tuning. It's geared towards the hobbiest.

Ive always thought it would be cool to have the software as well. Whats something like that cost. Does SCT have a class you can take to learn alot about it as well. I like to learn new things and how it all works myself

$350 for Advantage 3. No upcharge when you are ready for calibrator status.

My Advantage 3 is exactly the same as a commercial version with the exception that it will only work with my car. I've compared it side by side with a shop version, no difference. There are a few of us on this site who have calibrator status with Pro Racer which in essence is the full version of Advantage 3 without the multi vehicle license. We help each other when we can. It's almost always driveability stuff. We all know enough to command the correct spark advance and lambda for our cars. I turn off all the spark adding functions to keep it simple.

Advanced Engine Management by Greg Banish is only $16 on amazon. It's been mentioned before but it's worth mentioning again. IMO the depth of the internal combustion theory in this book is worth the price.

The biggest thing for me is the learning aspect. I originally bought prp because my tuner was moving and there wasn't anyone else I trusted. He left me with a mako (editable) version of my tune and some good reading material on the subject. That was a good starting point. Along the way you experiment with things and learn. I was also lucky enough to run into people who were willing to help me out. I don't claim to be a tuner but I am a fairly serious hobbiest.

I don't think we will see a tuning section on this forum. I've asked before and it was shot down.

Probably because Kimmer is afraid it will take away revenue from companies who offer tuning on here. Sucks though cause I am thinking about taking the plunge into self tuning and would be nice to be able to pick peoples brains.

I wouldn't say afraid. More like respectful. Some of the things take awhile to figure out. I'd say we are fortunate to have some good tuners who frequent this site and help with problems. I wouldn't want to see any of them upset enough to stop giving advice.

It's just a guess, I'm not trying to put words in anyone's mouth.

I agree Bruce, I have a great tuner and that is why I decided to just let him do his job and I will do mine. Let the guys that know how to do this sort of thing share what they want and respect all the hours and experience they have in doing their job.

i think that they should start a tuning section - the pro's dont have to post if they dont want to.

go ahead ask me questions - wouldnt say im awesome at it but i did take my car from a 12.2 to a 10.66 just using the PRP. I enjoyed it and was just starting to get the hang of most the table's and formula's - plus i have my software to read your datalog and do a walk through with you. I loved tuning my car - made me feel smart haha!

They could do it but if i were a pro i wouldn't want to be bother with every one just randomly asking questions then some kid gets info off here and tries to give his local tuner advice kid thinks he knows more than every one just cause he read it off the forum. Lol it could get ridicules.
I say i'm leaving my car with my tuner he's good at what he does.
