Ok so I installed a turbo in my car, and we were having a bit of issues tuning due to the throttle body wormclamp coming loose under boost and throwing the af ratios off. Yesterday I was on my way home shifting under 4k rpm, car is on a rich tune for the meantime, when all o a sudden I hear a shuffling card noise. It was a really loud noise at a very rapid speed. I let off the gas, in neutral, and the car just stayed idling but making the noise. We checked out the noise and found out it was coming from the valve covers. We took the valve covers off and inspected the cams, followers etc. The cam lobes had no scratches and the followers looked perfect. After some research on youtube, we found the phaser lockout video by livernois, and we matched the sound exactly. So I ordered some phaser lockouts and bolts from bbr overnight and I'm just thinking about removing my cams and putting the stock ones back in. I'm not forged and I have nsr stage 2 cams. I was wondering what you alls opinions were; keep the cams and run 6psi, or remove the cams and run 9psi? If I do remove the cams I can make back some money I've invested in the turbo build. Thnaks for the input.

I was thinking of selling my bbr cams for the same reason, not the noise but they are just getting to be a pita....I would say if you are able to run 3 more psi without them, and you are happy without them then sell them and make some money back and get the same kind of power.

My plans were to forged in a year, but now that I'm seeing it might be stressful, lol, I'm thinking of staying on the stock shortblock for a long time. My tuner said the cams are great for boost cause of the exhaust duration, but he also said adding the 3lbs of boost will contemplate the loss of power if I remove the cams. He said if he were me he would sell them, get some money back, and up the boost a bit. I already replaced the pos worm clamps. I just never thought it would be this difficult lol. I would probably be happy with 3 more lbs, make the same amount of power, and get money back I suppose.

If your trying to keep it safe then leave it. Its a matter of efficiency. The cams are moving more air/building less pressure in the manifold to make the same hp. Why run more boost and stress to the sytem when you dont have too? The goal is to make the power with as little boost as possible. :thumb2:

Id rather make 650rwhp at 16psi with cams and frpp manifold, than 650rwhp with the stock stuff at 19-20psi.

I guess you're right Jeremy. I jut received my BBR lockouts and two phaser bolts. I'm just waiting on the wedge tool to get here and I should have her fired up by Sunday. Hopefully I don't get any other little $300 surprises anymore.
