So what don't you like about your existing house/neighborhood?

I never felt at home here. I moved here in the height of my drinking days and have a lot of bad memories here. Also have had some of the shittiest neighbors of my life. My best friend died here. I have no room for my truck here. The people behind me have loud parties once a month and shake my house until after midnight. More crappy renters moving in all around me. Today I was coming home and two kids ran into the street chasing a ball. I stopped well back and waited. The little shit picked up his ball, looked at me and stood there in the middle of the street staring at me like I was an evil monster. I don't do anything in my yard any more, I come home and hide inside until it's time to leave again. I've been here 17 years and I am not getting any younger. This was my starter house and it's time to move into a better neighborhood with more space and privacy.

Sounds to me like you made the right move. It was either that or...

Awesome man it sounds like it is falling into place. I had the same issue with about the same amount of money my inlaws gave us on our first home and having to prove where the funds came from. I had to have a letter drawn up and signed by them stating they gave us the money but in the end it didn't matter as we were in escrow for over a hundred days back in 2010 when the banks were super strict about lending. All in all it worked out as the appraisal that HUD had expired and i ended up not having to pay the difference between my bid and the home appraisal. Saved me about 10k. Not to mention I ended up closing with only a $50 down payment.

That's encouraging. Glad it worked out for you.

Last night I found a glass shower enclosure on Craigslist. Got hold of the guy this morning and it's 88" wide, but my bathroom shower is only 60" wide. Checking into the cost of having it cut down. If I can get the glass cut cheap I will probably buy it for my master bath. I can build the half wall to size no problem.

Yeah you just have to be patient as I even think all the involved parties know the regs yet. So much has changed since 2008 it is silly. I think I supplied the same documents to the underwriter about 6 times and they called my employer at least the same amount to verify the information I was giving was true. It got to the point to where I had to send a letter to PRMG to stop harassing my employer. It is is just because typically cases get passed around when times are busy and like healthcare you may not have the same underwriter from beginning to end. Stupid.

Looks like I'm about to go pick up my shower tile. Found 16 boxes of this 8x10 tile on Craigslist for $80.

What can I say, I'm a cheapskate. I have champagne taste with a beer budget. I think I'm doing pretty good since I look at about 2000 or more ads per week but only actually buy one or two.

Waiting to hear from my buddy who is friends with a guy who installs showers and tile, he's supposed to give me a second opinion on the shower enclosure deal I found and posted a couple days ago. If he says it's a deal then I'll get that as well.

More Craigslist bargain hunting today. I've already picked up almost 400' of baseboard for $72 and another nice ceiling fan for $40 (not white). This afternoon I'm picking up some pool cleaning tools for $70. I'm getting the extendable pole, a vacuum head, hose, brush and skimmer net. I'm not paying full retail for that stuff new.

I also stopped by a local wholesale warehouse place yesterday that sells screen enclosures and materials to people in the trade. I spoke with the guys there and got the names and numbers of three small companies to give me quotes on fixing my pool enclosure. I've contacted all three and given them the address so they can each go inspect the property and give me a quote on what they think I need. This is one area where I think I might be in over my head trying to do it myself and I'd rather pay to do it right than pay to do it over.

Had a cool experience today when I went to go get the pool cleaning tools. I got the address and when I looked it up I instantly recognized it. Ended up being an old friend and my very first AA sponsor from 16-17 years ago. I hadn't seen him in almost 10 years (I'm not active in the group any more) and it was a good time chatting with him and getting caught up.

11 more days and then things will start getting exciting in this thread. I can't wait.

edit- I spoke with a guy from the local glass place the other day and he said the tempered glass in the shower enclosure can't be cut, and by the time they get a new piece of glass to fit it would not be a good deal at all. So I'm still completely undecided on what to do with my shower.

That sucks to hear. Whatever the case, just hang in there man. It will all be worth it when it's finally yours.

Just spoke with my mortgage broker and he said it was because the IRS has been dragging their feet returning copies of my taxes. So he's switching to a different lender that doesn't need that documentation and will accept my records and bank statements as proof that I paid my taxes.

Have patience and all the players want it to happen too (so they can get paid)

W3ell the bastards have done it again. All of a sudden 4 days before closing now they are saying we can't close by Wednesday and the seller isn't granting another extension. I am beyond furious. After stewing and fuming for 15 minutes I told my Realtor that we need to make this deal happen or else we are done. There will not be a 'next time', at least not with him. He wanted to cancel the appraisal and get my money back, I said it didn't matter and if there was a glimmer of hope of closing on Wednesday then we need to do whatever it takes to make it happen. I've gone too far to turn back now and I'm not starting over again.

I honestly have no idea what I'll do if I lose this house. My entire life is on hold for this deal and I've set so many things in motion that I can't just undo. I told my Realtor that I wasn't going to quit on this until at least Tuesday.

They say it's because the IRS hasn't responded to the form from the mortgage company requesting my tax returns. But my mortgage broker said he also submitted to another mortgage company last week as a backup plan in case the first mortgage company couldn't get the form in time. The second mortgage company doesn't need that form. But now it's still too fucking late. I am beyond pissed.

Today he told me that the 'gift' money I received to pay off the car loan has to be from a blood relative in order for Fannie Mae to accept it. Why the fuck didn't he tell me this two fucking months ago? If this deal is salvaged I may need to sell my car quickly and then worry about replacing it later.

Now I'll be honest,
I do believe that is correct on the loaned money...has to be a relative.

Sounds like this thing is blowing right up, again.
Can't win for losing.
I feel ya, bro.

Hate to hear you're going through so much BS.

Maybe it has changed but I bought a HUD home and my gift of $30K from my future in laws (we were not even married yet)was directly to me and I am the sole person listed on the mortgage and lender docs. They technically are not blood relatives and since my wife was not on the docs the lender would have no connection or know about it. It just had to be in the account for the set number of days. This fucking lender and realtor sound like rookies. I am truly sorry skwerl. I know our frustration.
