Screen guys came today. They did a great job and ended up working a long day due to a brief rainstorm this afternoon. They didn't finish until about 7:30 so I tipped them $50 each.

I was working trees today and only got in about an hour on the tile when I got called out for an emergency storm job getting a tree off 3 cars in a parking lot. Not enough progress on the shower to take more pics today but maybe tomorrow. I also need to fix the pool plumbing tomorrow and get the pump turned back on. Now that the screen is done I can keep the pool clean much easier.

Thanks guys! I'm stoked about it and hoping to get my bed moved in by the 15th. That's one week from today and a month since I closed.

Jaye, I figured you would like the distressed wood look tile.

Today I got rid of a large pile of crap and my carpenter buddy came by to install doors. We were only able to install one today. The French doors replacing the slider need to be trimmed down by 3/4" and I need to chisel out the stucco in order to remove the old door. The front door needs the screen door and trim removed as well.

But we got the door from the kitchen to the garage replaced which means I was able to begin moving the wall that the last owner built. Now you can finally see just how big my garage really is. The front wall which is right on the step will be completely removed and the back portion on the right will be extended all the way across, closing in the air conditioned shop. I will have a 6' wide double door there between the shop and the garage.

Last is a picture of my new water softening system. So far so good. I will build an enclosure off the side of the house to keep it out of the weather, and my electrician needs to get power to that outlet.

How tough is that screen? Can it handle any falling tree branches? Is it pretty durable?

It's all relative, Shaggy.

Finished setting tile today and had to cut up most of my scrap in order to finish. My leftover pieces all fit in a 1 gallon paint can. Thankfully the walls were all relatively straight and flat or else it could have been a nightmare. I only had one small area where I couldn't use full width pieces due to a slight bow in the wall. I'll install the floor tomorrow and then let it set up for a day before grouting it. The tile adhesive directions said up to 72 hours to dry and I had to build it up kind of thick in some places.

Just read all this, it makes me not want to buy a house. Unfortunatly, the one I own is in Richmond Hill GA and I doubt I'll ever be living there again and the house my wife and I own in NJ is not going to cut it for too much longer. Did you ever get to move in yet?

A couple minor setbacks. I've been busting my ass but not making much progress it seems. I'm losing my focus and tend to get sidetracked on less important tasks, then at the end of the day I'm pissed at myself because I'm no closer to moving in.

The master bath is giving me headaches. Went to install the shower floor tile and got the whole floor laid before discovering that the drain was 3/8" higher than the floor even at it's lowest adjustment. So all the tile came back up and I need to wait for all that tile adhesive to set up before building up the floor with thinset.

Next headache is the mirror that goes above the vanity. The first one I bought was 42" wide and once I started measuring I realized I don't have that much room. So I went back to Lowe's to exchange it for a 30" wide mirror but they were out of stock in that style. I found a very nice 30" mirror on clearance that matched the color of my vanity and bought it. But my vanity is taller than the old one and the mirror is taller as well, so now I have to raise the light fixture to make everything fit. When removing the electrical box for the light fixture I dropped the bracket down inside the wall so off to Home Depot for another electrical box. Finally got that in and the drywall patched but now I need to wait for the drywall mud to set up so I can skim it again, then paint it (two coats) and put the light up so I can put the mirror up.

And I still don't have the shower floor tile installed so I can't grout the tile yet either.

I did pick up some blinds for the windows across the front of the house so at least it will look better from the street. I also hauled off the trailer full of trash and returned it to it's owner. Will get it back in a few days for another load.

Tomorrow's focus will be back on the master bedroom and bathroom. Once I get to a point where I'm waiting for stuff to dry then I will begin pulling up the old carpet and prepping for the wood (laminate) floor installation. I have so much to do that I need to keep making a daily list in order to stay focused on my priorities.

Keep your eye on the prize! You have to remember that you are rehabbing and remodeling a home by yourself so it is going to take time. I very much like the list idea. If you're feeling down, just go back a couple pages and see the progress you have made because it is definitely there!

I make lists for myself all the time at work. Then I'm happy if I get like 3 or 4 things done on my list in the mists of the hay you crap that goes on.

Well today I got the mirror hung. Actually a bit more than that but a lot of back tracking and fixing stuff. I did get the old carpet pulled up in the master bedroom and prepped the floor for the new laminate. I also got the second coat of paint in the master bedroom and closet.

Still waiting on the shower floor to dry. I discovered I cut the pan liner but thankfully I have that Red Gard stuff and painted the cuts with it. Also having a hell of a time with the sink drain line. Stupid drain pipes are never anywhere near close in size to their actual measurement. I've bought the wrong shit twice and still need to make another attempt at it.

On the positive side I have all new blinds hung across the front windows of the house. No more old doors propped up in the windows to block the view and the sun. I may bring a load of living room furniture over tomorrow if I'm feeling spunky.
