I had a great day today. Lots of tasks completed and/or made lots of visual headway. I spent a couple hours painting and completed the living room, foyer and master bedroom. I also painted one side of the kitchen/dining area and got the first coat of paint on the hallway. This made a huge difference and made me feel like I was getting closer to moving in.

I got the vanity drain hooked up (finally). I decided to scrape up the mastic in the bottom of the shower pan as it has been over 2 days and still not dry. I ended up using about 75 lbs of thinset mortar to grade the shower floor to my liking. Now it's high enough that the drain will be the lowest point of the floor. Then I got spunky and grouted the tile on the outside of the shower so that I could set the toilet. Now my master bath is all functional except the shower floor tile and grout.

Keep your eye on the prize! You have to remember that you are rehabbing and remodeling a home by yourself so it is going to take time. I very much like the list idea. If you're feeling down, just go back a couple pages and see the progress you have made because it is definitely there!

Yep definitely I do this with all the house stuff I've been doing, I've even added something I did that wasn't on the list just to cross it off. First because that feels good and second so when I look at the list later and think why haven't I gotten abc done, I remember because I did xyz

Wood (laminate) floor went down in the master bedroom today. I got 8 boxes off Craigslist a couple months ago, decent stuff at a good price. I used every piece and was 15" short of finishing so I stole a cut piece out of the back of the closet to finish the bedroom floor. I may go back tonight and put the shower floor tile in.

I also touched up some bad drywall spots with mud, easier to see after the first coat of paint goes on. I installed the toilet paper holder and medicine cabinet in the master bath and got most of the pile in the garage out to the curb for garbage pickup tomorrow.

Looks like I need to get cable internet hooked up at the new place and I'm about ready to start moving in. The shower should be done in another day and everything else can be done after I move in. I have a busy week at work though so I may not make much progress this week.

Shower still isn't done. After using 90 lbs of mortar mix to build up the floor, I put the tile down and it was still 1/4" below the drain. At that point I said screw it I was leaving it and going over top of it with another layer. That worked out well because I ended up finding a 2x2 gray tile at Lowe's that matched the wall tile much better than the 1x1 brown tile I used the first time. Today I finally got the new tile down on the floor and it looks great. All that's left is grout and the glass door.

Moved my first trailer load of stuff over this evening including the refrigerator and the sleeper sofa. I had to leave the fridge on the back porch because it won't fit through the sliding glass door. I'll move it in when we install the french doors.

Been working every day and the heat is beating me up so work on the house has slowed down. I really need to get in this week and work on getting my old house cleaned out. The old house is getting listed in less than 3 weeks and I need it emptied out for pictures before then.

This shower is trying to kill me, I swear. Today after scraping and prepping everything for grout I mixed up the rest of the bag of grout I had. Mixed it too wet and didn't have more to add so I let it sit for a couple hours to dry out. In the meantime I replaced the broken attic pull down ladder with one I bought off Craigslist. Took about 2.5 hours by myself and by that time the grout was the right consistency to use. Didn't have enough to finish so I still need to revisit it again tomorrow.

I did manage to get the refrigerator in the house this morning. I lifted the sliding glass doors off the track to give myself a wide enough doorway, rolled it inside and put the doors back in place. Sometimes I surprise myself with what I can manage to move by myself just by taking my time and figuring out the leverage points.

I promise to get updated pics tomorrow.

Finally finished the shower tile today. Waiting on glass and hardware now.

Master bedroom is complete except for baseboards and closet rod/shelf. I used some of those nice wooden blinds I picked up off Craigslist a couple months ago.

Two of the spare bedrooms are cleaned out well enough to use as storage now so I'm starting to move stuff over from the other house.

And the cable guy came this morning. I now have internet at the new house so I can move the office desk over.

All you need now is to hookup with a woman that has 3-5 small kids for a ready made family.

LOL!

Looking good, Brian!
Keep up the great work.

Didn't get my desk and computer moved but my bed and dresser are over at the new house. Tonight will be my first night sleeping there. I'll come back and pack up my desk tomorrow, had a storm move in and delay my moving activities earlier this evening.

On the positive side I'm finding all sorts of stuff I forgot I had, and throwing away most of it. I think I need to rent a dumpster to get this place cleaned out.

My Realtor is heading off to her class reunion in a couple days so we won't list the old house for sale until she gets back. That gives me a couple more weeks to take my time and get everything moved out and cleaned up.

I slept great but my morning routine was way off. This house is a LOT bigger than my old place and it's about 20' further from the bedroom to the kitchen. And the kitchen layout sucks. Took way too much effort to make coffee this morning with lots of walking back and forth. At my old house I could practically stand in one spot and make a pot of coffee. Just another minor adjustment and something to refine when I get to remodel the kitchen.

Stop drinking coffee.

Drink Red Bull instead.

Looking great!

That mirror above the bathroom vanity kicked my OCD up a couple notches though. ;)

Yes, the mirror was about 1/8" high on the right side. I fixed it. And it wasn't centered on the vanity because it would have been slammed up against the wall. I centered it on the light. It's a lot more balanced now with the cabinet over the toilet.

My buddy who is doing my doors surprised me today. He and his partner recently picked up a 5 acre parcel of land for their business (custom milling and furniture making) and needed a mower to cut the grass. They bought a brand new 54" commercial rider and Conrad brought it by today and mowed my lawn for me. It was getting pretty ragged since I've been here 6 weeks and still don't have a mower big enough to cut it yet.
