I guess you have to wire up the clutch switch, to a toggle, to be able to use the 2 step feature from the xcal on these cars. I want to turn my rear defroster button into one. Keep the light also. What do I need to do to make that happen? I don't need the rear defroster in FL. I haven't used it but maybe 2 times out of a total of 3 mustangs. lol. Any input would be greatly appreciated. Thanks in advance

Which light are you talking about, the light that illuminates the switch? I'll try to find a wiring diagram to see which wire to cut....brb

Let me know what wires are on the back of the switch, but this is the pdf I found.

Looking at the pdf, it looks like the white wire would be cut and wired to the clutch switch, but you would need to stick a voltmeter on it and make sure that when you push the button, the white wire becomes energized with 12 volts. I was hoping to find a wiring diagram that showed all the wires going to that switch.

How would you make a complete loop though if your only using 1 wire of the switch? And yes I did mean the illumination light of the switch.

Well, one of the wires have to supply power to the switch, and the diagram shows the white wire going to the relay of the defrost, so if you check the voltage on the white wire and it's 12 volts, you would cut that wire (because it energizes when the button is pushed) and run it to whatever source you want to power when the defrost button is pushed, then from the item you are powering will have a wire that goes to ground to complete the circuit.

I guess what I was told was you had to use both wires of the clutch switch. Basically you are just putting a toggle in between both wires. So when you flick the switch. It thinks the switch is contacted. Is that what you figuring?

Yeah, that's what i'm thinking, but not positive because I haven't had to do it on my car. Basically you are tricking it into thinking the switch is made by providing 12 volts from another source (rear def. switch). At least that was my thought. It would be nice for someone who has put in a switch to chime in if this is basically what they did.

I'm no electronics wizard but having changed my climate control module I know that the rear defrost switch is part of the module, not a separate switch. Also looking at the wiring diagram above I see it uses the low currant board of the smart junction box to energize the rear defrost relay. I have no idea whether or not the SJB or Climate module may be affected by using it for something else but I'd use a different source simply because it might get expensive if things don't work out. The rear defrost also has an auto shut-off. I'm not sure if the relay controls it or something senses high currant draw or it's time related.

I used a reed switch mounted on the clutch switch bracket and the magnet mounted on the arm of the clutch pedal.
I'm not the only one so there must be pics up if you do a search.
