So I hate newer cars with all these computers - emissions inspection pain in the rear

OK - long story short...took car in for inspection. Car itself was perfect and passed safety inspection with flying colors. In PA if you put less than 5k miles on it it's exempt - mine was. Their machine was faulty and the exempt direction wouldn't work for some reason so they ran a regular emissions test but were not going to charge me for it and put the stickers on. Well I had 4 "IN-COMPLETES" on their machine. Had to replace the battery back in January. It was the original - car only has 47k miles on it. I drove it quite a few times to work in march and april figuring it should be enough to reset the computer. Nope. So I downloaded and printed the cycle test from Ford and went through the steps. Still, 4 in-completes. Spent 2/3s of my gorgeous day off trying to cycle everything. You'd think this would be fun out cruising in your Mustang on a beautiful day. Not when you have to drive between 25-45 on a 2 lane road with a 45 mph speed limit. People hated me. Anyways, the only thing that it looks as if i may have to do is give the car 8 hours minimum to set to reset the counter? Any help or tips would be great. I'm used to fox bodies and never having to do this.

- do a search...this has been covered many a time, and I've made many posts how to pass (we have tighter 1 not-ready allowed). These cars can pass, you just have to have the tune and systems set up properly. Driving it every so often ensures that, even with a disconnected battery.
- if you have a custom tune, you likely have your rear o2 sensors turned off, causing the not ready's to show up.

Thanks I'll do a search, I did do a few searches on the internet - I have a K&N CAI, 4.10s, and a 93 tune that's it. Canned tune with SCT tuner. Thanks for the encouragement.

I'd bet a case of your rear sensors are turned off in the tune.

Here's the issue - problem solved and passed emissions. According to the tuner my rear O2s were still on. However I did call Bama Tuning and after reviewing everything - they asked which tune I was using. I said the 93 octane tune...he asked the "race tune"? I said I'm guessing you mean 93 octane tune according to the SCT tuner? only other tunes listed were 87 and 91 octane tunes. He said yeah you have it on race tune and need to put it at the 87 tune with current mods. Wished I knew ahead of time about this. I mean I figured the 93 octane tune might push the "parameters" more than the other two but didn't realize it wouldn't allow me to pass emissions. Again I'm new to hand held tuners and am used to the fox bodies I've owned. Anyways thanks for everyone's help. Emissions are now up to date and the 93 octane tune loaded back into the car.

That is a crock.....in PA exempt is exempt. My car is 8 years old and has 17K miles on the clock. Has had an exemption sticker on it for the last 7 years. Find another shop.

sounds like a fishy response to me, IMO the 93 tune has the rears off, no other explanation
