So what happens when springs are installed upside down?

I just found out on progressive springs, the tighter wound part goes on top. Well due to the markings on the vogtland springs, I installed them with the tighter wound on the bottom (or on the strut perch).

Does this reverse the spring rate? Like get the higher rate then lower rate?

No, as long as they are still seated properly it won't make any noticeable difference. You might have about 1/4 lb more unsprung weight on each side but that's just a guess based on theory.
