I am wanting to install my custom engine in my 05 GT.It uses it's own Engine Harness and P.C.M.Using the Ford P.C.M and harness is not an option as the new engine is not a 3 valve engine. It will be attatched to a Tremec manual transmission.
I am wondering how to keep everthing working on the car such as lights,a/c,heater controls, radio, ignition switch, power windows. etc working.
Basically I want to remove the 4.6 3v engine, trans, engine harness and P.C.M. and drop in my engine that has already been run and tuned on the dyno as a stand alone unit.
The new engine is a small block 364 ci from another project and I would rather use this because it has proven to be very reliable.

well good luck with that!

those things are controlled by the BCM and PCM .. and you intend to delete one of those, which will give hell to the other i'm sure. so, short of keeping the PCM in the car, i don't see any of those things working.

what's wrong with VCT, fuel injection and distributorless ignition anyway?

you should get a 1971 F100 for an old carb motor man.. Ford went EFI back in the 80's for a reason ..

A lot of things are controlled by the PCM, and some others by the BCM. The a/c would not likely work with a different PCM, but you could "fix" that with some wiring. And along those lines, anything electrical can be made to work w/o using the BCM, but you'd have to do some wiring modifications to bypass those modules.
The power windows could be your biggest challenge, although I've not looked at how those are wired in. The other systems you listed are fairly straightforward.

Various items get power via switched PCM relays, including the BCM. As I said, you may have to do some wiring mods to get everything to work, but it should be possible.
Just don't expect a non-S197 PCM to be able to be used and everything work.

Mostly, you'll have issues with the instrument cluster. All the gauges are fed via signals from the PCM. The PCM does control various other things via CAN data communications as well, including the fuel pump driver module, radio, instrument cluster, BCM, PATS, etc. Eliminating that data network could have unforeseen effects.

Thank you for the replies.
First off the new engine is fuel injected and runs off its own computer and harness,so no carbs here.
Second,Is it possible to leave the s197 computer in the car to run all the required electrical devices and have my stand alone computer run only my engine?

jay rod, Those are my thoughts also, in theory it should work with maybe some dummy resistors, Time to get the schematics out.

You can still run the chassis harness in your car...

If you want to use the stock guages and what not in your car with the new harness, you'll need to find the wires for each application and run off of those wires...but, like said before, it's almost pointless..

Here is what we done....use the pcm that came with the motor for just the motor...use your chassis harness for all your lights and what not...then, the easiest thing to do is to have a panel made, or find a company who makes a panel for the 05+ dash, or use the stock dash and modify it like we did....and use all Auto Meter guages....

I was considering a similar project but decided against it. I was ok with making everything stand alone and removing the chassis harness. What threw me was the power windows. How would I make the windows go down when I opened the doors and go back up when closed?
