ET streets, 265/40/18. i'm a little confused here, these are drag radials, aren't they?

Ok...just "terminology". The bias ply ET Streets need less air than the radial ET Streets.

I'd start those at either 18 or 20 pounds. Hell....start at 20 psi. Work your way down in 2 psi increments. You can't get a real good result from going 1 psi at a time. You actually should be able to hook that thing at 18-20 psi.

thanks guys, some good info...all is not lost...

i had a blast tonight. i mean back in the early 80's i had a 65 falcon 2dr hardtop that ran a best of 11.41 @ 121....(it had a 351c in front of a c6)..which was fairly quick, but this tonight was still a lot of fun. i think the go fast bug has bitten me...hard

my wife's not going to like it....

There are ET Streets and ET Street Radials. The ET Streets are bias ply. It sounds like you have the Radials.
If they are 18" they are the radials. the bias ply dont come in 18's.

well i hope they have a compressor then. i sure don't want to carry an air tank out there.
Find that out first or get a foot pump. Either way DO NOT lower the pressure unless you will be able to get it back after. Driving on the highway with 18psi = not safe at all.

That's why I said he had the radials. He was confused about the difference. I wasn't.
Oh. I thought you said "it sounds like you have the Radials" instead of "you have the radials". The "sounds like" part made me think there was some level of doubt about the statement. Either way

Yup and yup. You don't need to do a big john force smoke show but they need to get tacky. One thing you can do is change your driver side mirror so you can see down by the tire. Watch and once you got some smoke you're good. Lowering the pressure to 18 psi area should help a LOT. The lower psi with a good burn should allow you to be able to launch from ATLEAST 3000 rpms easy. What I found helped till I got a feel for it was to slip the clutch out and NOT push the gas to the floor. Give it one second to grab while you slip the clutch out THEN mash it to the floor. Also If you set your rev limiter to 7000-7200 and do a 6500 1-2 and 2-3 shift you should be able to cross the 1/4 mile mark redlined in third gear. One less shift = better time.

Put the tires back to recommended psi before you leave the track.

+1 to what he said

That's why I don't have one.

i've had this one for 27 years....i'm hanging on to her....maybe.....j/k....i gave up racing before we got married, now the kids are grown and out of college, so i think she sort of expects it. as long as we don't talk about what i spend on the car, we do okay.....that and if i spend enough money on the stuff she wants around the house!

I dump the clutch between 5000-5500 rpm, I power shift every gear. My best 60ft so far has been 1.64 and I set my tire pressure on my ET Streets between 14 & 17psi.

I disagree... DRs at 16 to 20psi aren't that bad on the street, if you aren't corner carving. Their sidewalls are much stiffer than a bias ply tire. I used to run my DRs at 17psi and drive them home with no issue at all. And that was through a winding canyon road.

I have to agree with Don. I have run mine home on 15 lbs with no problem at all. That being said, if I had access to some air I would have pumped the up.

I leave mine at 18 psi all over town but no way you'd catch me on the highway like that. You two are braver than I.
