i have a 07 also,just swapped mine to a 160 when i did the cmdp. now im wondering if i should swap it back??

I did the swap when I did the cams. The car wouldn't go into open loop without correcting the tune. I wasn't about to spend hundreds for a retune. I put the stock one back in.

Some guys run the 160 t-stat with FI apps, but the tunes are created for them. Try it out, maybe datalog to make sure it runs ok.

well im in flrida,it usually takes 4-5 minutes to reach 198 or so, i will be turbo with in the month and dyno tuned shortly after.

If you are somewhere warm (like FL, Southern AZ, South TX, Southern CA), then you'd probably be all right with a 160 t-stat because the temp will come on up into the 180s or higher anyway.

The temp that the fan comes on will then govern what your steady state (closed loop) temp will be. You may want to set your fan on temp to 180.

In the summertime, in GA, I ran an old Buick w/o a thermostat and it ran in the 180s most of the time, even with a 4 flue cross-section radiator. When it started getting cooler weather, I noticed the temp would drop so I put the t-stat back in.

I know this thread is way old, but I didn't see any other threads contrary to this one, about having to remove the intake to swap the t stat on an 07+. Its easily done by removing the throttle body.

My car's temp spiked yesterday for no apparent reason, up to 220, for about a min, then back down to 195. Figured I'd change the t stat first. I was able to get to the back bolt no problem with a small 8mm wrench, and since the housing is notched, you dont take the bolt all the way out. After removing the throttle body. The whole job took maybe 30-40 min.

This may be old news, but it was new to me since I just got this car.

Interesting. Is the 07+ t-stat in the crossover tube? I wonder if I could simply replace my 05 crossover tube with the 07+ and get rid of that hideous octopus hose mess in front of my motor that currently houses my t-stat?

I think you have to change the heads. Don't remember. Been a few years since I was under the hood of a 3 valve.

I looked at some schematics and it looks like the 07+ engines just moved the t-stat to the crossover tube but the octopus hose is still in place, there's just no t-stat in that housing. So much for that idea!

the 07 is just one hose coming from the block to the radiator with another hose that "tees" off to the coolant tank. i think the 05 has one more hose in that connection plus the thermostat housing.

Wow, what a PITA - glad I have an 05 & 06.

I have an '05 but converted the cooling system to an '07 because it sucked. Anyway, taking off the intake takes about ten minutes.

Very cool, never thought of that. Only takes me 10 mins to get the manifold off so I never bothered to try other ways.
