A few years ago they banned drag radials at the Texas Mile because they were blowing out. They can handle 250mph in the quarter mile but can't hold 200mph for a full mile.


This is true. Time is a factor with tires blowing from speed.

When you are going fast tires will heat up over the course of a run. As the heat increases the tires ability to hold together decreases. You don't see this at the 60' because centrifugal force is still relatively low.

DRs are designed for the 1/4 and not much else. I remember reading a whole thing written by a tech from M/T about why the rating of drag radials is what it is.
