To build or not to build

So I am debating on building up my 06 GT or to trade it in and get something else.

2006 GT, all stock, 5 spd, 70K miles

My wife just graduated nursing school so it has been a rough 2.5 years and I supported her through it so she could focus on school and what not. Well she started working again and once we get a few things in order I want to start modding my mustang (The itch has been KILLING me for far to long!!!)

Plans:
KB or whipple
302 stroked (??)
forged internals to handle the power
suspension mods to help keep it planted
wheels/tires
TR6060
and rear end gears.

I want to put down around 500-550 for now but with the potential to go higher in the future.

This is currently a DD but I plan on buying a commuter car for a DD and having this be the fun time car/drive it when i feel like it. It may see the drag strip every once in a while but not religiously. I would plan on buying a short block and building it up then just swapping motors. I would like to go with a 302 stroker kit as well but that is not a must.

My question is this: Should I build it up and dump all the $$$ into it or should I look at other options like a 03/04 Cobra? With an 03/04 cobra I think I would be happy for a while with it near stock but would eventually start modding it as well but there would be no need to build the bottom end.

I have not really planned out this build yet and am just trying to find some insight on what you all think. I see some of the cars on here and cant help but drool!!!

If you are getting a daily beater I'd sell the 06 and get a termi cobra, the whole advantage of the s197 is its got such nice creature comforts, looks, and performance in one package, but if you want a all out beast i'd go termi.

Take it from a guy who has done EVERYTHING you want to do to your car... Trade/sell your car and go pick up an 07-09 GT500 which can be had for right around 30k in good used shape. You'll save yourself alot of headaches in the long run.

Thanks guys! I am not sure I am in a position to shell out 30K just yet but within the next year or so possibly. I was thinking 03/04 because they are cheaper but then again, the miles are usually high (for my taste) compared to a 2007. hopefully the release of the 2013 will bring down the 2007 prices.

I could always keep the 06 GT and just mildly mod it to tame the itch for now and look at getting a 07-09 GT500.....

being mid/ end of a build myself id sell it and buy something already done. youll save a decent amount of time/ money. check the classifieds here or elsewhere theres alot of nice cars with good prices

You could stick a FRPP Whipple on it for $6400. Run the FRPP tune and keep everything else stock except maybe the clutch. It would still get you 470 or so at the wheels and the risk of catastrophic failure is pretty low.

I plan on building mine in the near future . I'd just buy a cheap dd off of craigslist which can be had for 1200-2000 and something good on gas and modify the hell out of the s197 that's what I plan on doing anyways if you want a termi wait a couple years and they'll get even cheaper

im thinking the same thing for my car.. once its paid off thinking of going to a clean GT500. do small mods and have all the fun i want in a car. not looking to break records.. just have my own enjoyment.

once its paid off i should get a few bucks more then book value for it with the mods ive done.. ill have to seek a buyer thats on a site like this... that should at least give me a decent down payment on a clean used GT500

base 2012 mustang gt with auto for 25ish, save for awhile then add a roush tvs and have a fun 10sec daily driver.

After all the suspension mods, blower install, shifters, exhaust...If I could do it over again, I'd get a GT500.
