TPMS question

Does not having the TMPS sensors on the tires do anything other than a light on the dash?

I am looking to get a new set of wheels and tires, but don't want to have to pay for the TPMS stuff if all it is, is a dash light.

I am plenty capable of checking my tires on my own.

(Yes, I searched, but can't find anything on this, and yes, I suck at searching this site)

Nothing but the annoying light . Mine doesn't even work in my car. Mine went down to 24psi and the light never came on . POS system.

1) Deliberately defeating a vehicle "safety" system might have an effect on your insurance claim should you be unfortunate enough to get into an accident. You should check your policy. Insurance companies will use any excuse not to pay.

2) Some tire shops won't install tires without the sensors due to liability issues.

3) Having the TPMS warning light permanently illuminated is annoying to me - ymmv.

I had bought a set of drag radials, and when I had them at 19psi, the light never came on either, which is why I was curious, Thanks a ton!

You probably didn't get out of range of your stock wheels. I have to get about 30 miles from home on my non-tpms setup before any lights come on

Wow, that is nuts! I was right about that in distance...and I rarely go that far from my house, so if that is the case I might not even see the light at all.

It took about two days for the TPMS system in my '07 to recognize that the sensors were gone. After that, the light came on all the time.

not worried about the light, just making sure no beeping or anything else that would bother me.

I thought the light wouldn't bother me but it did. I drove my car on nice days the first winter and had a set of tires more appropriate for those conditions (without sensors). The next spring I did the first supercharger build and have only summer driven the car since so the TPMS light is no longer an issue.

If you like to change out wheels frequently and don't want to be messing with the TPMS you can make a pipe bomb shaped capsule and install a valve stem on it, throw your four sensors in there with some cotton (or other cushion type material), seal it, air it up to 32-35psi, and throw it in the trunk. No more TPMS woes.

I don't tun TPMS valves in my Weld RT-S wheels. The light just comes on but it's no big deal. remember, when you turn off traction control there's a light on the dash as well.

Like other said the TPMS dash light is it
Our local tire shop will not mount tires without TPMS due to liability issues
Also, I picked up the Ford TPMS tool that allows you to swap wheels/tires (street to track) and then train the ECU for the 2nd set of sensor IDs which takes only a few minutes
