trans temp sender unit

where are you guys installing the trans sender unit.i just finish reading through 20 pages and the only info i found was of one guy that install it by tapping into the trannny fluid pan.is this the only way to do it or is there another place to get more accurate readings from.
this is for an auto transmisison just incase.

I think mine is in the line coming out of the trans, before it hits the trans cooler. this shows the hottest fluid. however i never traced the lines from start o finish so it could also be in the return line

Mine is in my pan also.
