I have an 05 GT with an automatic transmission. A couple months ago it was slipping from second to third gear but not too bad. It would slip just a bit and then go into gear. I was told to put a shift kit in to help boost up the pressure in the transmission to help it last longer and make the shifts firmer. It was better after this but now whenever i run my a/c as well the tranny starts to do funky things and slips more. I know that a/c causes the engine to work harder but it seems like its having to work a lot harder and the engine has a wining noise when the a/c is on. It also seems like the tranny is working harder too. When i had the car serviced a few months ago i was told that the a/c compressor is slowly going out but it still blows cold air. Could the a/c compressor be putting a lot more drag on the engine and causing the tranny to slip more or would it be something else? Any advice is greatly appreciated.

3rd gear failures on our 5r55S transmission are a common problem. Search and you will find several threads on this topic. Most are caused by either the intermediate servo failing or the solenoid pack

Short version: nothing your A/C is doing can affect your tranny; the whine you hear is most likely the bearing in the A/C compressor. As for your 5r55s, have you changed your fluid and filter on it? Slipping in all the gears sometimes means that your fluid is low or your filter is dirty.

Ya it was just from second to third. The tranny also clunks too when you slow down and come to a stop. I think the intermediate servo is going out or the clutches possibly. It tends to slip and clunk more when the car has been driven for a while. I'm pretty sure i need a rebuild and was kind of told that when i had the tranny serviced a few months ago I'm just trying to buy time because its expensive. As far as the a/c compressor would the bearing be going and causing the whine? Also from outside the car the a/c is louder than it used to be and you can tell when its on.
