how about Ford owns up to their design flaw. Since even stock cars are popping #8.

There's no evidence of this. I'll bet every #8 failure is mod related. Guarranteed if Ford knew of a problem, they'd do what needs to be done to take care of it.

how about just buying a spare pcm?

Not possible because the PCM and the keys are tied together through Ford's PATS (Passive Anti-Theft System).

This ain't 1993 anymore. Just about every single thing on these cars is controlled electronically and monitored/logged in the event of a crash or catastrophic failure.

The fact of the matter still remains that some "tuners" have tried to circumvent fail-safes that Ford has put in place to keep the motor intact so that they can claim to be the best "tuner" out there because they squeezed another 5rwhp out of their tune over the other guy.

Technically you still could. The PCM would just need to be reprogrammed. Finding someone to do that for you without writing up a repair order through a Ford dealer might be the tricky part.

Yeah, good luck with that. You've got a better chance of scoring with a Victoria's Secret model than having that happen. It shouldn't even be considered an option.

uhh cool dude
The mods in your sig are illegal in some places.
not in north dakota

well, i guess i put my foot in my proverbial mouth. just read through the forum rules again and nothing is mentioned about discussion of such things. first board i've been on where it's kosher to openly and blatantly discuss scamming out someone.

doesnt change my stance on the subject. i still think (and would LOVE to hear someone justify) how going as far as swapping out your pcm is legal. if you've got the need to hide your tune that bad, you've done something that is beyond the intended scope of your vehicles warranty. i deal with ass hats like that all the time (on aircraft). save everyone the time and money and either be honest or stay out of the service department. if YOU fucked something up, ford WILL find out. doesn't matter if you swap a (inset modified part here) out, a stock motor doesn't just lean out and toast a piston for no reason.

However I feel about the legality about some of what is posted here, I do think it serves a couple of purposes. It shows others what not to do, and it shows the possible ramifications of such actions. I come to sites like this to learn and I do learn from the posts here, some of things I learn are the right things to do, and some of them are the wrong things to do. That's what I'm here for, that and to help others when I can.

I'm a firm believer you have to pay to play. But I also know there is dishonesty on both sides of the table.

you would probably be better off keeping your side of the table clean, so when it comes time to call out ford, you dont have any dirty laundry to clear out, but hey what the fuck do i know, im just a boyscout :lol2:

How criminal of me for tuning my car. You're also assuming if my #8 blew, I'd try to take it to Ford.

My only comment was, what if you had to swap pcm's. I'm biting my tongue on the rest of this conversation.

A) No, that's not what your only comment was

B) Your comment was made in the context of swapping your pcm for the purpose of hiding the fact that you had a tune installed.

not my point at all. you say you believe in the 'gotta pay to play' mindset, yet you would swap a pcm to hide your fuckup? im no sherlock holmes, but something aint' right...

So... your point? I'm just pointing out flaws in the system.
