Any of you turbo guys have em? I have had my turbo for a while and just recently I started seein white smoke out the tail pipes. Thought I busted a seal but there wasnt enough smoke for that. My buddy told me about putting a nitrous jet in (.52) because the oil is dumping and going through the seals. I put a .67 on and it helped but didnt fix it so I got a .52 today and it isnt blowing smoke anymore. I wonder why I never heard anything about this before. Is anyone else running a restrictor?

For journal bearing turbos usually .065 will work fine but I had to go down to .035 on my BB turbos to stop the oiling problem.

My kit comes with restrictors welded on the oil feed. But I have a lot of friends with turbos that run function 7 oil restrictors. Do a search on ebay and you will find them.

Typically the problem is not in the feed while the engine is running. What happens is when you shut the engine off there is so much oil pressure in a modular engine that it keeps feeding oil to the turbos after they have spooled down. We use a check valve in the oil feed line that shuts off the flow to the turbos once the engine shuts down. This solved the problem of pushing oil past the seals and into the cold side of the turbo.

I used a .062 on mine. I did a lot of research prior to putting it in and for a journal bearing turbo under .062 wasn't recommended. Will a .52 hurt it? I don't think you can know until there is a problem, if there ever is.

It did turn out that the oil feed was not the problem of my smoking but I left the restrictor without any issues.

what was the problem with the smoke for you?

I have a buddy with a .52 in his twins and he doesnt have any problems. I read that some import guys had to go in the 40's on their journal bearing turbos. Maybe it just varies between turbos. I figure if Im not getting enough oil in the turbo it would have smoked and burnt up by now. Drove 40 miles on it today with the .52 in it

It sounds like the .052 may work for you.

The smoke was a problem with the blow off valve not releasing enough pressure when I was at the track. When I was running 20+ pounds of boost and snapping the throttle closed at the top end of the track the pressure the turbo was still generating wasn't escaping from from blow off valve and was hitting the compressor wheel. I upgraded to a 50mm and all is well. I am guessing the pressure hitting the wheel was causing a problem allowing the oil past the seal. Under 20lbs of boost everything is fine, it just happens under the big boost situations at the track.

I really can't say. I tune the car myself and haven't seen a dyno in over a year.

Good for you!! All that matters is your sig: 10.31@133 1.51 60ft

Thanks Don.

I stopped running race gas and switched to E85. So far the best has been 10.44@130 right off the street with no changes except tire pressure.

I heard the only issue with E85 in our cars is the required fuel increase. Bigger injectors and more flow from the pumps to handle the added fuel required with e85.

When I was in LAs a coupel weeks ago I was shocked t how cheap e85 was..

takes 56 bushels of corn to make 1 gallon of ethanol. fuckin retarded and not very well thought out IMO. Great for an added bonus with racin the car but not as an alternitive fuel.

My buddy has 150lb injectors to run the ethanol
