Turbo timers are a waste of money IMO, every turbo car i have ever had it has been a complete waste of money. Just let the car idle for little or so before you turn it off.

If i recall correctly, its mostly for turbos that are oil cooled only but now most if not all are oil and water cooled

I get that question all the time from a co-worker who has a frickin' Neon SRT4. Since he has one then everybody needs one....right????? Dipshit.

Anyway....I do NOT have a turbo timer on my twins. Mine are water/oil cooled and I simply let the car idle for about a minute or so while I'm gathering up whatever I need to take with me when I get out of the car. No biggie.

On the second part of your question......not particularly. Some of the quickest turbo cars around have stock heads and intake. My engine was completely stock when I ran the 10.88 pass. Several others on the board have unported heads but with decent valves and upgraded springs with a stock intake. Brad (fin1) has unported heads, stock cams, stock intake, and 284" and has run 9.80's. Unless you are building a purpose-built race car you don't need all the high-dollar crap for a street/strip car.

ball bearing tubos dont need timers. if you had a journal bearing and didnt wanna sit and let the car idle for a minute than sure get one. i had a viper alarm on my turbo civic which had a built timer so i just used it.

must be a turbonetics cuz they seem to be cheaper
It is a Garrett 60mm they use in the base kit.
am finding that mmr not very good.

I have had luck with my MMR shortblock but many have not. I bought mine a couple years ago from a good friend who bought it over a year before then but sold his car before getting it in it. Allot of the complaints are with their customer service wich I never delt with and it seems here in the last couple years people have been having major problems with their motors now. I wonder if they had a staff change or the company grew too fast but eather way they have gotten a bad name.

Yes they're primarily for oil cooled
Dunno about ball bearings, I'm sure they suffer less but other than that idk.

just use the intake on the kit?
How would you get an intake designed to fit over the throttle body onto the turbo?
Yes, get a larger diameter exhaust, you won't have headers, you're a turbo car. Those kits re-use the stock manifolds.
Do a little research. Especially if you're going to just BUY a car with things you don't understand on it.
The things that will help you are larger diameter exhaust, turbo grind cams (comp stage 2 VSRs have gotten good results I hear) ported/upgraded heads, lower compression pistons, etc.

Turbo timers are useless

What I bolded is the only thing I needed to know, did you even read my question?..
