I over tightened a valve cover bolt and broke it. I was able to get the part out of the head with tweezers, but now where can I get a new one? Does older models have the same bolts that will work on my 2008 4.6? There's plenty of pull a parts around me, but the newest mustang and f150 is a 2002

Sorry to bring up this thread again, but what size are the valve cover bolts? I would just go to the hardware store, but my hardware store is in metric here in Germany.

Thanks

Sometimes you can get lucky on ebay for a cheap set of bolts. You should be able to take a bolt to the hardware store and they can match the size/length/thread pitch. I haven't found anywhere that lists the dimensions or offers a stand-alone replacement set.

Just buzz one out to compare. A specialty fastener shop can help you. I'm sure tasca Steve could sell you one but shipping would be a pain.

Most of the bolts on my 08 GT are metric both for the head and for the threads. i can't think of any original equipment bolts that aren't metric.

Differential cover bolts are imperial, spark plugs before 2008, lug nuts (you can use 21 mm but you damage the chrome cover). The S550 has 21 mm, the 20.9 mm do not fit.

Mean bolts are Torx plus, the fuel tank straps are TP50. I just bend a Hazet (German premium brand like Snap-on) TX40 in a TP40 bolt on my Mercedes.

I use a 21mm impact socket to remove my lugs, but I think a 13/16th socket is a tighter fit when I torque them. The 21mm feels like a typical socket on a typical hex.

Friend has a S550 and I helped him once with a repair, got my air impact with the 13/16 and it did not fit, so used the 21 mm. On some of our cars the chrome cover got lose from the lug nuts, I wonder if this has something to do with it, because with a 21 mm nut the force is more on the corner of the nuts than with the 13/16 (?)

Hm. Mebbe I should get a 13/16 deep impact.... The sockets I used are Milwaukee, and they're really nice.
